New from NC

Hello all!

My name is Billy. I am from Winston-Salem, NC
I am new here and looking for my first Airstream.

Little bit about me. I am 36 years old. I have been camping my whole life and have always loved Airstreams. I am married with two boys 14, and 8.
Yesterday I sold my fiberglass Uhaul camper that I have owned and loved dearly for the past 13 years. My family had simply outgrown it and I felt that this was the right decision in order to finally make my airstream dream a reality.

I am an assembly specialist for Honda Aircraft company. I build jet aircraft all day every day. I am no stranger to aluminum or rivets. I felt like this was all meant to be. I am an avid Honda fanatic. Not your teenage race types, but I enjoy restoring vintage Honda's for their heritage value.

I am also into restoring Toyota Land Cruisers. I am no stranger to restoration projects and have a yard full. Now it is time to find my camper.

I am looking for a 26' range trailer. Preferably an Argosy. I like the painted look, but a classic airstream will do just fine. Just a matter of what I find in my price range. We went and looked at one Friday, but did not buy the first one I looked at.

After acquisition of my new trailer, I will be searching for a tow vehicle. Probably will go with an 80's suburban. We had one growing up and I loved it. Until then, dad has a Dodge that will do nicely.

I'm excited to be here and excited for the hunt!

Here is me, my oldest, my Uhaul, and some pups.

Billy, since you work only about 3 miles from Out-of-Doors Mart in Colfax (Sandy Ridge Road exit on I-40), why don't you stop over there and talk to one of the sales reps (Jason, maybe?). ODM is one of the oldest Airstream dealers in the US, and while they may not have an Argosy on the back lot, there might be something else that would fit your needs. (BTW, we are all waiting to see those HondaJets start being delivered!)

Thanks guys! Yes, I pass Out-of-Doors Mart every day. I have eyeballed the airstreams for years. I've been by twice in the past two weeks. They have an Agrosy in the back, but it's there for service.

Talked to the sales rep last week. Didn't catch his name, but he would hardly give me the time of day.
I guess I don't look like your typical airstream buyer. I, a considerably young individual, rolled up in a 25 year old Honda, wearing shorts and T-shirt talking about wanting a vintage camper. Hard to take serious.
Well, I just sold my camper and also work hard to have nice things. Never know who has a pocket full of cash.
It was a real turnoff.

Not saying I won't be back, they are a convent parts source and a fun place to go look! Just rubbed the wrong way that day.

Welcome Winston-Salem!

As has been said, ODM you see every day......a few other common issues of folks here on the Forum....I had a 1983 Landcruiser, new.... I live about 2 miles off the end of 14....occasionally see large silver birds...

I also do a lot of work on my AS as BAB does.

Most of us here on Air Forums are willing to help in any way we can. Send me a PM if you ever have questions or if you want to visit and see my AS. I cannot actually speak for BAB but suspect he would be as sociable as I am, both of us in Greensboro.

Another item, once you actually own an AS, join us in the Carolinas Unit of the WBCCI, we really have a great time.

Billy,
Cruise around RVTrader.com when you doing your looking/pricing. We found the Silver Otter there on 2011 and loved every minute since. YOUR Airstream/Argosy is out there. Just keep looking.

I found a nice looking 24' Argosy in my price range. Been talking to the owner. Seems like a lot of work has been completed new tries, brakes, bearings, paint etc. interior is complete and seems nice. It is bit (quite large actually) of a road trip but I actually like that.
I have to work this weekend, but I'm going the following weekend to check it out. Owner took it off the market until I come take a look.
I saw where there are volunteer "inspectors" to do the looking, but I like a trip and would prefer to check it out myself. If it's a bust all I'm out is gas $. Adventure and going places you've never been is what makes the airstream lifestyle appealing. This is just part of the process. And... Road time is excellent time spent with your loved ones.
