Just made reservations last night, site 130, look forward to it.. I am about two miles from Topsail and have walked through previous canopeners and admired everyone's Airstreams. This is what motivated us to take the plunge!!

Way Cool. We are in 144, upper left side. This is our first Canopener. We were encouraged to go by the folks in 145. Pam is a childhood friend of mine. We grew up until 4th grade two doors from each other in a small town in Indiana.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Hi Saltydogs! Welcome to Airforums.com!

To edit you profile and other personal items, look at the top of this page and find the highest horizontal dark blue bar. Near the left side of it is "UserCP". Just click on that and modify away!

I think that with 10 posts, you should be able to put up photos. Read post 7 in Janet`s wonderful `how to` thread here.

Be aware that the number 1 reason for difficulties in posting photos is getting the picture size wrong: too big, it won`t post. Too little, hard to see.

Good luck!

I like the size and don't want to go to a longer unit but would like something more compfortable to set at than the current dinnette and would like to put in a rounded couch and small free standing table, or chairs or??? without changing any of the utilities under the dinette seats. How do I find postings if anyone else has done this, or remodeling companies that might help? Since I don't know how to use the forum could you send that to me at awhitner@strato.net or do I have to log back into the forum?

The change that you are proposing would return you to the very typical Airstream/Argosy floorplan for a coach of your size in the 1960s/1970s. The usual name for the floorplan was front lounge. I am not familiar with the particulars of your coach, but you should be able to determine basic feasibility by looking into the compartments below your dinette seating:
  • Potential hazards that might be encountered include:
    • Electric Power Converter
    • Battery Compartment
    • Fresh Water Tank
    • External Storage Compartments.
If you find that you don't have serious issues with hazards, substituting a lounge for your dinette should pose few issues. As far as shops that might be able to handle the conversion for you, the one that I know of may be a little too far distant for you . . . but they have done absolutely beautiful restoration on both of my coaches . . . Fowler RV Interiors of Symsonia, Kentucky (near Paducah, KY). The Airstream Service Center in Jackson Center, Ohio could also handle such a change for you.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin

The floorplans below are for a 1979 Minuets (the 6.0 Metre would be comparable to your coach), and as you can see they have front lounges with a "Credenza Table" that folds out of the wall for dining . . . . earlier 1960s coaches of this size had small drop-leaf dining tables with a pair of folding chairs that stored in one of the closets.

A typical drop-leaf dining table as utilized in 1960s Airstreams is shown below:

When open, the table is quite generous as seen below:

The image below if of the floorplans for the 6.0 Metre Minuet illustrating the differences between a coach with the then standard lounge arrangement with a coach having the optional dinette floorplan arrangement.
