New California Streamers

Heya Folks,

Saying "Hi" from California. Took delivery of our 30' International Signature RB last Saturday! Woohoo. General thanks to all the information found on this site, really helped. We fell into Airstreaming by disaster. Would love to connect with anyone else that is using their Airstream as an emergency temporary dwelling after the Northern California Wildfires last October.

When the house burned down and we couldn't find anything near the property (we own an orchard/vineyard in a rural area) to rent the insurance company said, "sure you can buy an Airstream." We already owned a 2008 GMC 2500HD Diesel we used for the horse trailer/ranch so we were good to go for a tow vehicle.

We know NOTHING about living in a trailer. The one thing we do know after walking our neighbor's place...An Airstream trailer is way better than a FEMA trailer (but a FEMA trailer is better than a tent).

We're in the process of converting part of our place into a "campsite with full-hookups!" to live at while we figure it all out. My wife and I are full-timing and in information intensive industries so the forums there have been totally awesome. I've taken some inspiration from some of the "campsites" at those luxury resorts in Palm Springs.

Don't know if the image link will work.

Hi and thanks for all the fish.

And HI from Colorado: I can't imagine your pain and suffering though those horrible wildfires. I gather from your first post you will rebuild and be just fine.

Congratulations on your new "home". It will likely be a major adjustment as you get used to living in such a small space. But it will keep you warm and dry, and if necessary you can hitch up and skedaddle. The systems in your new trailer (electrical, water, HVAC and the like) will take a bit to learn, but it isn't too bad at all.

I have found Air Forums a great resource for information and advice. Please do post any and all questions you may have in one of the forum categories and see if you don't get your question answered. I bet you will.

Enjoy your new Airstream, then roll up your sleeves and put it all back together again, maybe better than it was.
