New California Member! Old Excella! :)

Hello, all -

We just recently put a deposit on a 1981 Excella II 31' with a rear bedroom.

The good news is that the body is in very straight shape. I guess another bit of good news is that it's a rear bedroom. The air conditioning works, all the tanks are there including LP and water, and the fridge seems to work (wasn't there long enough to verify). The tires are newish, all the windows are in place and work.

The bad news: Mice made a home of the area beneath the front side of the trailer, under the front cabinets, under the bed. It doesn't appear that they worked their way up the walls. The trailer was parked for 4-5 years. There is smell; we've read all about Hantavirus and expect that we need to have it cleaned prior to anything else. We will be replacing the beds of course. I expect we will be having to replace wood panels under the front couch / bed, and hope to not have to drop the front belly pan.

Is there anyone who could assist us / coach us as we look at this a little more? Are there any good airstream owners who could lend a hand in looking at this one, commercial or otherwise? Any help would be very appreciated!

Thank you!

First of congratulations! You could not be on a better forum than this for information. Defiantly get a second opinion. If I did I would have saved some $$$! Oh well rookie mistake #1. The smell could be from the insulation in the walls and the belly pan. Make sure to read all you can about the year and size of this rig. Also familiarize yourself with the cost involved with the major systems. That will make sure you don't pay too much. As you read you will start to recognize different people on these forums. Most are very knowledgeable and helpful (a few are not) in getting you the answers you seek. Best of luck!!

Congratulations. It sounds like the one I hope to find someday. My first thought on the smell is - dead mice.

Good luck!!
