New airstream looker -

well we had the "motorhome" nightmare, purchased an older one and never really got to use it - donated it to VOA - now looking at what we should have looked at first - Airstream Travel trailer - looking for a 20-24 foot and do have a possible hook on one - am looking forward to enjoying the outdoors, in the winter somewhere in Ariz or Texas as it is a bit tough to enjoy the sun in Jan, Feb and Mar in Minnesota.

Hi bluesky and welcome to the Forums! But really -- Cannon Falls is 10-15 degrees more tropical than us. Even your trees are bigger! Plan on bringing your Airstream to the Midwest Forums Rally in June sometime -- plenty of notice is online here by at least March.

Questions and answers are a good objective -- hopefully we can pair the proper response when you ask! Best wishes in your quest.

Use the Search tab...

Welcome and good luck.. The search tab really can lead you to more information than you can probably easily digest..

Several quick recaps:

1. Top 4 internet classifieds for Airstream are - Here (look above..), airstream.net classifieds (Vintage Club), craigslist.com and RVtraderonline.com. There are others, but those 4 have largest selection
2. E-Bay has worked for some, been nightmare for others, and fraud is fact of life... More have been burned by "sight unseen" deals than thrilled. If you find one, try to get member here to inspect if it's remote..
3. Be prepared to look across wide geographic area and move quickly. The market for clean mid-20's lengths is active, and good ones don't last long if fairly priced.. We lost several to others who moved faster, and bought ours while others were "working on getting loans approved.."
4. Be patient.. It can take months or longer to find the right one. Several other members here are also seeking 24-26' trailers, so it is like fishing in small lake with other boats in water...

John McG

p.s. We wanted narrow-body (mid-80's to 1993) 25' with rear queen, and found it in Texas (2,365 miles away..) after a year of casual looking..

Welcome to the forum!

This is the place to find all answers Airstream! We are all nuts here!

There is an interesting thread (long, so grab a cup of coffee and scan the pages...) on what to think about when buying an airstream. It was originally about new 'streams, but much applies to vintage or "barely" used. Might give you additional food for thought!
http://www.airforums.com/forum...eam-22920.html

Have fun, and good luck on finding just the right Airstream!

We regretfully decided last week that we will have to give up trailering, and so have our 2002 25 ft Safari SS for sale. It is loaded wiht all the options, LS package, day/night shades and awnings all around. Haven't adverised it yet as I don't have inside photos yet. Contact me if you have interest in a unit like this.

Ohh, Jim! I'm sorry to hear that. I did see his Safari at the June Midwest Forums rally -- and don't think any 'looker' would be disappointed. Jim, best wishes to you both. Your contributions to this website would still be welcomed!

bluesky -- Airstreams back into the 1990s can be pretty much ready-to-go. 1980s in this length can be pretty good but may need some re-working. 1970s and before are in high demand, not on the market long, and much more intensive on restoration efforts.

Jim, Really sorry to hear this. Can you switch to a motor home? You will stay on the Forum right?

Bluesky, Good luck in your hunt! If Jim's trailer isn't right for you remember this forum has A/S experts salted all over the country that can dash out and inspect units for you.

I know who you are:

bluesky is a good handle for you Glen. Now that I know that you're looking seriously, I will keep my eyes open.

We got back from Door county, Wi., Columbus Day with our Airstream and wouldn't it be nice to go together next year? Met a couple from Illinois at the campground in Fish Creek that had just purchased a used trailer. they loved it.

You and Pat370 and I should meet for coffee some morning. He's an old pilot as well as you. I emphasize the OLD!

We will definitely staying on the forum. We still have a 1991 34 ft on site at Travelers Rest in Florida, so still have an Airstream. We are considering getting a motorhome. Don’t know if it will be an Airstream or something else. If we get something else, will we still be welcome at Forums rallies?

Jim -- The strict membership requirements and Forums rules dictate that you must have an ember of Airstream burning in your soul. No problem!
