Hello to all, My name is Robin new to this. Would like to purchase an Airstream as a permenant residence. My time frame would be in about 2 yrs. My first question would be is it possible make your own floor plan and design and have Airstream build it. I would perfer at least a 30 or 34 ft. Thank you.

Welcome Robin. The answer to your question is yes, if you have the money. Airstream has made many custoim units over the years. Visit Fred's Page for a sampling of some of them. http://www.airstreammotorhomes.com/

Robin,
Alternatively, you could pick up a unit that is a few years old, and have one of the many trailer specialists in California build you a custom interior. You will likely get a better quality interior than the factory can build for you, depending on where you go for the work.
What gets expensive are if you change the layout of the major sections, for example, if a rear bath unit gets converted to a center bath etc., or if you want to totally relocate the kitchen.

From my experience in sales, I have seen some nice custom ordered airstreams and some very expensive price tags to go along with them. I would have to agree with everybody else, airstream will build it if you want to spend the money, but you could purchase a used one and have it built just as nice and probably cheaper .

Welcome to the forums Robin!

Your "dream" Airstream sounds nice. Custom is good. My question in return would be: have you ever lived in a trailer previously? If you are planning on living in one full time will you be traveling or in one place? If you have not lived in a trailer full time, perhaps you might want to purchase a useable one and try it out for awhile. If you should decide to pay the bucks up for a custom Airstream it will certainly help you know what you might want!

Good luck!
