My husband and I have found the Airstream we really like after several years of looking at various makes and models of travel trailers. We like to travel light and don't need/want all the 'bells and whistles' of most current travel trailers, instead have been VERY impressed with the quality of Airstream trailers and how they appear to hold their value. The one we've found now is sitting on a dealers lot and is a 2006, even as 2008 models are coming in. The price appears very reasonable for comparable airstreams, but are curious why this one wouldn't have sold for so long. Is there something we should be looking for specifically as a potential problem? We'll be meeting with the sales rep tomorrow and are doing background research before that meeting, so would really appreciate any feedback from you more experienced airstream owners. THANKS!

hi 'greenfield and welcome to the forums!
hey the bigger question is WHY did it take you so long to find the right one?
who knows why and who cares.
if the unit isn't damaged or otherwise dinged from time buy it!
i would however INSIST on brand new fresh batteries....
the current battery/s has been idle too long to trust, and it's a small dollar item for the dealer...
the tires might also be an issue if under inflated and sitting on the lot....
check the build date on the trailer AND the 'made on' date on the tires....
IF they are at ALL funky looking tires (cracks, fade, bulges and so on) again ask for new tires...
good luck, buy fast and go camping!
and post some photos too...
cheers

Im----Welcome to the forums. You're on the trail of a great trailer in the 23 ft Safari. There is nothing wrong with this year and model compared to the 05 & 07 models. I wouldn't worry why it's still there, just make sure it is as represented. If it is being sold as 2 model years old but new, then no previous registration with the DMV, no current license plate, the tires still have the little rubber nubs on them, the appliances show no evidence of use, etc, You get the idea. Look at the used trailer guides for a reasonable price for a 2 year old model. Let us know how this works out.
Thanks for the encouragement and advice. We are now proud and happy Airstream owners! Can hardly wait to get it fully outfitted and take it for a weekend spin.

Don't you all get tired of photos of the standard garden-variety Airstreams? We haven't had ours long enough to do anything really interesting with it on the inside, and the outside is just plain clean, beautiful and shining, as are others of this type.

I don't get it either, but for some reason we all like looking at Airstreams in pictures or in person. Some sort of fanaticism I guess.
Congratulations on your new Airstream and welcome to the forums. You will enjoy your new recreational lifestyle that lay ahead. Airstreaming is its own form of RV'ing. You will make friends in fellow Airstreamers like no others in the RV world. Good luck and enjoy!

We bought our "new" 2006 Safari 23 from Colonial Airstream in July 2007. It was the last unit left from an inventory they had acquired from a dealer who passed away, and his family didn't want to stay in business. It is great, no problems except for the batteries that both had dead cell or two, and that rechargeable halogen flashlight wouldn't work, so we ordered a new one. Insist on new batteries, both of ours had a dead cell, and wouldn't hold a charge. No problems with Airstram replacing them for free. We have 4,000 miles and 6 trips on ours so far...we love it! Join a WBCCI local unit and have fun with the local rallies.

Trying to post photos of our Airstream on the lot in Ohio just after purchase, but keep losing the link...I'll figure it out eventually - am new to this site and not yet familiar with all the posting conventions. LMG AS Safari 23LS-1 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Your new baby looks a lot like an AS my wife and I looked at in Piqua, OH. We had fallen in love with the panoramic windows across the front and decided to keep looking - the International is more to our liking, but we really liked the one we saw in Piqua. We've still not found our! We are meeting with a salesman tomorrow and if we can come to a meeting of the minds (wallet, and other concerns) we may also be finished looking. Here's hoping. Between reading the FORUMS, searching the internet, reading the classifieds, etc...I'm spending way too much time searching. I hope the search is over. Perhaps we'll run into you on the road some day.........from a displaced Michigander now residing in Ohio, enjoy 'streamin.
