Need Advice: Re-Sealing Windows & Replacing Table

Hi - I am helping a friend restore his just purchased 1985 Sovereign 25' w/ mid-bath. We are trying to find out what kind of sealant/caulk to use on the exterior windows -- which are leaking. Also, we would like to find an original (if possible) table. His is missing the second table top that flips out to make it longer. Any ideas? Thank you!

Hi Sue H, I was advised to use something called Vulcam...it is a type of caulking.....bought it here in Tucson at the Airstream dealer--Oasis RV

Certainly someone who knows more than I will reply (hopefully) I envy you people having the project. I recently "inspected" a 1959 Airstream here in Tucson for a forum member......made me wish I had a barn and room to take it apart and restore it.

Parts for older Airstreams are available....Inland Empire...can't remember the complete name....Andy gives advice here and owns a business that restores Airstreams....knows all about parts and availability of parts. I think Inland RV is in Corona, CA. Try googling it.

Welcome to the forums. As far as the table goes, check the classified area under parts and you will see one once and a while. Ebay is another place where they will pop up from time to time. Or maybe someone who has gutted his trailer may read this and make you a good deal. Good luck with your search.

Hi Sue and welcome to the forums. What part of the window are you wanting to seal? Vulkem or Sikalastic polyurethane based caulks are the best choice for sealing the window frames to the body. But make sure you get all the old caulk out first. Depending on what the existing caulk is will determine the best method of removal. Both the Vulkem and Sikalastic are available from multiple sources. Including direct from The Mothership If you are looking for the window seals that go between the movable frames and the fixed frames (black rubber) they are available from any parts stocking Airstream Dealer by the foot. If you mean the glass to the frame itself that is a whole 'nother issue.

One of my windows wasn't set properly and appeared to have a slight gap. When I was at the factory for service, I believe they used Vulkum to seal them. I think they did a great job. I didn't have any leaks before, but the window didn't seem solid...now, it is. I'm specifically talking about the window inside the window frame, not the window frame connected to the body.

I had a replacement Vista View that was leaking between the glass and frame, Airstream support recommended using the Acryl-R sealant at that point. On my wing windows where the seals were falling out, I cut the seal back using a razor knife then laid in a nice heavy bead of Vulkem...so far no leaks
