My Mom is 87 and camps in her 61 Bambi

My Mom is 87 and what keeps her going is camping in her 61 Bambi.
I get the job of upkeep and upgrades.
She got into camping after divorcing and trying to raise 2 kids alone
back in the 1960s. ( I was the youngest) After bringing us kids to a
Scout campout she thought that it would be fun for our family
of 3 to take up camping. That was the begining. She started out in a
1961 Volkswagon, 2 kids a dog, canvas cabin tent and all the gear stuffed
into a Bug, it must have been quit a site! Then came a roof rack and the
big step up to a one wheel box trailor, remember those? Then a 1966 a VW Bus she converted to a camper.
Well 6 or 7 campers later (including a Airstream Globetrotter) and
quitting camping twice, Shes been camping with the Bambi sense 2002,
with more help the last few years.

Great story and welcome to the forums. Since I became involved in Airstreaming, I've known no other camping except in a Bambi. I love it too!

That’s awesome!

You should also consider sending an article along with the pictures to Airstream Life. You should be able to find some information on the forum about the magazine.

Wow, what a neat mom to have. This is the stuff that keeps people young - having a focus and active interest in doing things rather than sitting and idling away the time at home. She's fortunate to have you to do the maintenance/upkeep for her so good for you as well. Too often the kids forget about maw and paw.

Pictures are always a good thing. And if you can, any old ones too, even if they aren't airstream but still camping.

That is great Dave! They say people live about 10 years longer who go camping. Your mother is living proof of that. The great outdoors is so peaceful. Hip hip hooray for Mom..................

I hope our children will be able to say the same thing about us someday.

That story give us "older" folks a boost. I often wonder when I will be too old to camp in the Argosy. I'm thinking I have at least 20 more years if all goes well, but now you have given me more time. Thanks.

I was just thinking - can you imagine how many campfire stories she can probably tell? And I can't even imagine how many bags of marshmallows have passed on over that many years of camping. Wow.
