looking to buy an Airstream depending on price

Looking to buy an airstream some time in the future depending on price. I am new to this so I do not know anything about price etc., but I have always admired the airstream.

Are you looking for new or used or vintage? The prices will vary depending on what you're looking for, but to get a general idea on used prices check out the Classifieds section (tab @ top of page). For 'New" check out the website to get an idea...then shop around.

You'l find vintage trailers in various degrees of disrepair or restoration for $500-$30K+. New ones will start at about $40K and go up over $ there really is an Airstreaam to fit every budget - it just means you have to decide what is right for you.

Good luck in your search and welcome to AirForums!

Welcome. Looking for your first Airstream can be an adventure to say the least. We are not new to RV's, but are also looking for our first Airstream. We've been at our search for a little over a year now. Most of the used ones we have found are out of our price range or gone before we can get there to even look at them. To complicate issues more, my wife isn't the easiest to please, so that eliminates many off the top. The good ones, at least in the PA area go very quickly, so be prepaired to jump on one that you are seriously interested in.

With all that said, we have had the most fun we've ever had shopping for something looking for an Airstream. Everyone we have met has been amazing. It's a great adventure and a great lifestyle. Best of luck in your search.

Welcome. Decide on how much you want to spend, and what lenght range. This will help determine whether new or used. Then focus on layouts. Spend as much time as you can in different layouts. We missed out on a couple of good prospects locally...drove to Florida to look at one, finally found the "right one" (one-owner from an airstream dealer) in North Carolina.
Be patient and enjoy the search!

Remember its not the destination, but rather the journey.... its what's in the middle that matters the most!

Take your time,, block all emotions..

Our Airstream search lasted 5 years.. After getting deeper in to the 72 Overlander we got 2 weeks ago..I wish now I would have pushed the PO down another $1000 on price.. Just picky things like at one time someone used sandpaper on areas of the outer body.. Could not see it with all the "gray rust" until I started to polish it out a few days ago..

When I say emotions,, we had to drive 300 miles to look over this Overlander we ended up getting.. A part of reason we got it was after a 5 year search I was just tired of looking,, and did not want to waste another full day and 600 mile trip without pulling one back home..

Good luck and keep your eye open of what you are getting into..

Many 1000s of posts are on this site that give good pointers what to look for and avoid..

New Owner

Best of luck with your search. My wife and I spent over a year looking at used and new Airstreams. We ended up purchasing a 4 year old Safari 27FB which we've greatly enjoyed. Even with the repairs we've made (floor rot, refrigerator door, fantastic fan replacement, new tires and 16" wheels, and sealing leaks) we saved money by purchasing a "lightly used" trailer.

As others have stated the Forums are a great place to educate yourself and obtain advice. Whether you buy new or used, you can learn from the experiences of others before you make the big purchase.

Take your time to learn and see a number of trailers before you take the plunge. Visit some rallies and talk to owners. Everyone we've met in the Airstream community before and after our purchase has been wonderful. Feel free to send PM's (private messages) to people posting on the Forums. With one exception I've always gotten a quick and helpful response to PM's I've sent.
