looking to become part of the Airstream community

Hi, My name is Valerie and I live in Wichita Kansas. I do not yet own an Airstream but have always wanted one that I could remodel.I am an artist and collector with an interest in mid century objects and patterns. I am considering buying one to live in while I am in grad school to save me from commuting home as much from Emporia where I will be studying art therapy. I am a student and have little money, I also drive a Jetta so I can't haul yet. I am interested in a trailer over a mobile home because of the up keep. Any suggestions or input on pricing and repairs for mobile home Airstreams?

Welcome to the forum

Valerie,
I am sure you have found out that good used Airstreams are at a premium now. But then value is always is at a premium. Go for it...
Good luck,
John

With time, you can remodel anything and especially since Airstreams were here mid century (assuming you mean this past century) You should have no problem coming up with great ideas. I'm not sure what art therapy is but if you would provide a link to the stuff you are interested in, I for one would at least look.
Many here need other therapy. Aluminitus is a recognized disease.
I have two daughters younger than you and my mind swims with some of the thoughts and ideas they come up with so I'll take this chance and let you prepare me.
As you know, the Jetta will not pull any Airstream that you would want to live in but you came to the right place for a start if you have the passion.
Start by looking at the classifieds and going prices to determine if there is something in your budget and then query the forum on something you find. Loads of people will chime in if you ask a specific question on a particular unit out there.

Valerie, this could be a good solution, but as a fellow midwesterner, I know that our winters can be fierce at times. I'm assuming your school year of full time living in the trailer would include the winter months. You might want to do a search (see the menu bar above) for winter living in an Airstream in cold weather areas. One in particular by Ruby Slippers chronicles a winter experience in mid Missouri. You can probably do it, but you'll need to make some special provisions. Unlike mobile homes, our Airstreams are not built or insulated for the most part for cold weather. For sure, you'll run into water issues, condensation, adequate propane storage, and so on. I don't know if you had considered this aspect, so, my post is just for your thought. Best wishes, G
