looking for the right Airstream

Hi, My wife and I are looking to import a vintage Airstream into the UK for the first time for use as a tourer/camper and trying to locate the right one online is proving difficult and we are hoping some members might be able to assist by pointing us in the right direction or perhaps have a suitable one for sale.

What we are looking for is:
A late 60's or 70's trailer that's ready to use with no major faults - good bodywork, floor and chassis in sound condition.

We are looking for a twin axle trailer with a body length of up to 23' (just the body length, not including bumper and tow hitch) In the UK we can legally only tow a trailer with a body length of up to 7m, (23') with a normal SUV type vehicle. I believe you guys measure the length of the trailer to include the bumper and tow hitch, so depending on the lengths of these we could be looking at a 25/26' trailer. However we don't necessarily want the maximum length so a 23' Safari, for eaxmple would be fine.

Ideally we would like a side bathroom layout with bed space in the rear
Also would like the trailer to have an awning. The internals do not have to be original and we would be happy to look at examples that have been converted.

If anybody can help us out here that would be great. Maybe you can recommend resellers who often sell vintage Airstreams or maybe you know one that is for sale.

Welcome Rockyrigger, This looks to be quite a nice unit, it is in the vintage classifieds at the top of this page.

Most of the older ones have the bathroom at the back.
Hang in there, your unit will find you. I have seen a few that have been modified to bed in back. It's out there, with your name on it somewhere.
If I see one on my surfing I will be sure to let you know.

This 'appears' to be a good site. An Overlander would be the about right length and would give you the twin axles. There are a few on this page. BUT you should be VERY wary of scams, there are quite a few threads on the forums regarding scams so it would probably be prudent to educate yourself. It would be helpful to have someone on this continent, a family member or friend for example, to do some legwork.

Thanks People, that's a nice welcome to this forum. I'll check them out. Yes, I'm already aware of the scams. There's one on Craigslist from a 'colonel' in the U S Army, a 71 Safari in great condition for $1950 ! If sounds too good to be true, it usually is!

Thanks fly girl, the one in Texas looks really nice but a bit out of my budget. Getting it over here and legal costs a pretty penny so I hope to spend more no more than $9-12000 before shipping

Good to know how much you want to spend, narrows the search.
Here is a good thread regarding scams I found.
