Looking for advice on ordering from a dealer

First, hello. I suppose it is time to introduce myself I've been lurking for months.

We have the war horse in the driveway now all we need is the right chariot.

We are looking large, but not 3 axles. I adore the current model of the 30 classic limited, we love the look of the dark international interior and really like the current 28 International with the curbside dinette.

I know that these larger trailers are often available for a very reasonable price but I also know that I want what I want. I'm not trying to sound petulant but this is going to be our home for a few years and I don't want to look at dirty carpet.

How difficult is it to order through a dealer and how much latitude do they have? For example, could I request the 30 classic with a curbside dinette and no carpet?

Thank you all in advance. You have been an invaluable resource over the past few months as we have fine tuned our plans. Your expertise has helped to learn the lingo but it has also given us the confidence to go for it and kick this hamster wheel.

I have a 30' classic I ordered through a dealer last winter. It has dirty carpet.

In general on a factory order they will make changes for a change fee of several hundred dollars plus the cost of the additional materials and time. So, delete the front carpet is probably doable. Rearranging the dinette, maybe, but I doubt it.

I did not find the ordering process difficult however I did find that my local dealer was reluctant to consider a factory order seriously while there were similar units in inventory on the lot. These sold to other buyers during negotiations and the dealer then became much easier to work with.

We recently placed an order for a 27' Classic. Carpet is standard in the bedroom, however we ordered ours without it at no extra charge.

Thank you guys SO much!! We are completely jazzed about the New Year's Rally!

As for the ordering process - we are waiting on year end bonus numbers (the projections seem to be good) before we know for certain what our next step will be. Kevin and I are planners. Your insight helps tremendously.

Our plan is to get the boys into college and then "retire" to full-time. We would like to find a park in AZ or NM for a winter home base and spend our summers toodling, volunteering, or workamping as we wish. Kevin figures he should be able to make more than enough to meet our annual expenses by preparing taxes over the winter, the rest is gravy and all the while the 401K works for us behind the scenes.

We've visited with our dealer. I'm not overly impressed, but we didn't have anything with which to impress that day. He might spend more time with us if we pull up in the truck and not the Odyssexxy. An attitude change will only serve to unimpress me more. Fortunately, we have the internet, an insatiable desire to drive, and a wealth of fabulous information from this forum. Thanks again.
