Longtime lurker, first time poster.

Hello from Texas! I have been lurking through the forums for a few months now, reading and learning. My husband and I are in the process of transitioning from our old (boring) life to a new life as fulltiming adventurers and wanderers.

We started this adventure a couple of months ago with the purchase of a Winnebago. After it stalled out at a stoplight on a hill, we decided to kick the motorhome idea to the curb and get something towable and a tow vehicle with a new engine, so that's where we are now.

I have done enough reading here to be thoroughly scared of the possibility of having to do a shell-off floor replacement, so as we look for our towable, we are leaning towards an Avion (boo, hiss, I know- be nice to me, I'm new!).

I look forward to doing less lurking and more discussing, now what I've actually joined the site.

An Avion!!! Does your Husband know how lucky he is to have an Avion loving Wife?

No booing or cat calls here. We have one and use it more... much more than our Airstream. Welcome.

Kevin

If you're talking Airstreams, even Avions, you're talking traveling very light and compact. Even the big ones are tiny homes, with little space for more than bare essentials. Are you in that camp?

Travel and adventure are great, but sometimes a home port is great as well. We travel half the year, love both lifestyles. Ready to give it all up, and have a backup plan just in case?

Airstreamers love travel with an iconic American trailer, its about fun, pride, and satisfaction and new destinations. Tell us more abut yourself. Go to an Airstream rally this summer and see what's cookin'. Welcome Aboard!

Do not assume that a particular Avion will be solid JUST because it's an Avion. A friend and neighbor of mine has one that he had to rebuild extensively, though I don't think he had to remove the shell completely (they had completed the renovation before we met... I introduced myself when I saw the trailer in front of their house before their first post-reno trip, a few months before our Argosy found us.) His trailer is incredible now, but lots of work and money went into making it that way.

In every case, it's essential to inspect the trailer you're considering rigorously. Don't let sellers' stories, shiny aluminum or nice new flooring convince you that you don't need to check EVERYTHING.

I don't mean to sound overly negative... there are definitely good trailers out there, and there are lots of trailers that are priced fairly for what they are, but there are also trailers that are Somebody Else's Problem, and the sellers are trying to make those problems yours.

Oh, and much more importantly... Welcome to the forums, and good hunting for a new-to-you trailer!

Thanks, guys! We are definitely going to be approaching the trailer purchase with more judiciousness than we had when we bought the Winnebago- that was definitely someone else's problem, and I have no intention of repeating our mistake.

Yes, we are in the small living camp. My husband travels a lot for work and we've basically spent the past few months living in a hotel room while also paying for upkeep on a ridiculous rent house in Houston. I've found that being in a small space with the hubs is much more enjoyable than being in our house, where we can both be home but totally ignore one another. I've also reached the point where all of this stuff that we've accumulated feels like an anchor, tying me somewhere that I've no desire to be, and I'm looking forward to selling and/or giving away everything that won't fit in a camper. At the end of the day, all I really want is to hang out with my husband and our dog and to see awesome things.

Wow, that devolved into a diatribe on materialism rather quickly. REGARDLESS, I am happy to be here, and thanks for the welcome! (and the advice.)
