long term resto on a '63 Overlander
I have a 63' Overlander that I've been working on for 7 years. Really I only work on it a couple days a year, usually a day or two before I need to use it. I have replaced the floor in the front with out removing the shell and started stripping the orange paint the PO painted on every thing inside the AS. I have removed the propane tanks to save weight. I have only been to one camp ground that had hook ups, and found out pretty quick that I had busted water pipes through out the AS. I don't usually camp at places that have hook ups, so fixing the the pipes is pretty low on my list to do. Currently I setting up my new TV, a 1957 Chevy 1/2 ton. For some reason no one makes tow hitches for that year so I had to make one out of a Reese hitch for a Toyota. Next for the AS is the brakes and to install WD hitch. Would like to thank the member who turned me on to this site, and gave me a great gaucho for free. It fits perfect just need to make plywood under the cushion. If anyone has a pic of this let know, I have an idea how it works. All for now.

Cool, another '63 Overlander...
We are getting close to having ours useable, having done a shell off.
Post some photos!

63 Overlanders are the best!
Welcome to the site, sounds like you're getting plenty of use out of your trailer while you're making your repairs and changes, and that's great. I'm halfway through a total renovation of my own, but stopped so that I could use it for a while (turns out a "while" is going on 4 years but who's counting? ).
Thanks for sharing, please keep us updated with your progress and like everyone else, I love seeing pictures.

Cool photos. I noticed the door has 64' style hinges. Has it been replaced maybe? Perhaps it's a verrrrrry late '63 because of the door and fridge covers.

That's a good question, I got the year off the tag paper work. Now that I know how to read the SS#, I will check to be sure. Mine has two plates near the door. A large one with Land yacht, and the other is small. They both have numbers on them, but the small one is real hard to read.

Wow! You're from Dacula! I grew up there but live on the other side of town now.
What a cute trailer! Do you have any pictures of the inside?

You have a link, I've tried to find the club, but came up with nothing. Still trying to find my way around in here, I get lost and distracted very easily, so much cool stuff to read.

The SS# is 263T549 the small tag is T0028688 for MHMA travel trailer approved standards health and safety. Everything looks original that's still in or on the trailer except the interior lighting and the residential water heater hiding under one of the beds. I will have to see what the last production #'s were for 63' to see were mine falls.

According to your vin its an Ohio made (26) 1963 (3) Twin (T) and the 549th made (549).
Mine was #186. I'm not sure if there's a registry of the numbers used somewhere?

Twin as one bed or two, because mine has two beds which would make it a double, or is a double one bed?

A twin is one wider bed (for two, ha ha ha), while singles are usually something like 34" wide, and I think there are always two of them.
Somebody correct me on the two singles thing if I am wrong...?

Twins are 2 beds one on each side It would have a D for double which is a single bed that would fit 2 people.

My vin# should have a "D" then and not a "T", the interior is original except for the 2X6 box under the street side bed to make room for the residential water heater. I'm completely confused.

1963 was a very interesting year because it was the first year of the big push for standardization between the Ohio and Cali plants. Anything goes!
Your straps on the doors are typical of earlier airstreams too, perhaps the door was replaced at some point. In 63 most had typical upper and lower hinges (like a door in your house). In 64 airstream went back to the straps, at least in Ohio.
Anyone feel free to chime in if I'm wrong!!!
