We have been dreaming of owning an Airstream for 10 years and we are now the proud owners if a 2013 19 ft. We are avid readers of the forum. Thank you all for sharing your wisdom with us newbies.

Oooo, a 23! Confession time. We actually bought our 2013 19 two years ago. We just got around to joining the forum. As much as I love the 19 I admit I aspire to upgrade to a 23. Where have you taken yours?

We started looking at 16 and 19 footers before deciding the 23D better fit with our needs. Once we found a tow vehicle (yes, we bought it with nothing to tow it with!), we headed out for thanksgiving in Sunnyvale, then over to Yosemite for two nights in the snow and then back up the west coast. All in all it was 16 days and 2500 miles which gave us a good shakedown of the trailer. Now we're looking at our next trip south for a week.

Jumping from a 19 to a 25 seems wise as long as your tow vehicle is up to it. Otherwise, a 23 might be just the ticket. (ducking and running from a potential tow vehicle conversation)

They call that 2ft-itis...it never really stops because as you go up obviously you get more options/space. We started our hunt for a 25, decided we much preferred the 27/28 size, bought a 28 and now have a Classic 30

I love the 2ft-itis. Unfortunately it is a tight squeeze getting our 19 parked at our place so my visions of a bigger rig will be limited by that factor. I really do like that 23 though....[emoji4]

We started our Airstream experience with a new 2013 25FB International Serenity fitted with a Hensley Arrow hitch. After some custom receiver work at CanAm in London, Ontario, on the tow vehicle, I towed the 25FB home empty from Los Angles to Phoenix on I-10 (including the steep climb out of Palm Springs) with my 2007 Mercedes ML320 CDI V6 3.0L turbo charged diesel. I drove 55 mph the entire trip which was an optimum for the power train, especially in the mountains.
After getting the 25FB loaded for camping at around 6,900 pounds, we discovered the ML was not really happy with the load so upgraded to a 2012 Ram 2500HD Cummins. We were unhappy with the 25FB layout so jumped to a 2014 31' Classic fitted with a ProPride hitch.
We then decided to get a 2015 23D International Serenity and tow it with the Mercedes to easily get into the smaller and older camp grounds. We reused the Hensley Arrow that I had kept when trading in the 25FB. We upgraded the 23D from the stock 14" GYM ST215/75R14C tires and wheels to 15" Michelin LTX (P) 235/75R15 XL tires and SenDel T03-56545T wheels which brought the 23D frame to the same elevation as the 25FB had using the same model and brand tires. This allowed all the prior hitch configuration settings to work for the 23D as well.
We tow the 23D at 55 mph and at 6,068, pounds loaded is a full but manageable load for the Mercedes through the mountains in our area in the SouthWest.
The 23D/25FB are the shortest current production model Airstreams with tandem axles and are the longest narrow body (8' 0") trailer. The 25FB and longer are 8' 6" wide.
We were able to put five 100 watt solar panels on the roof of the 23D among other customizations.

We loved our 19' Bambi (pictured in my avatar) and we love our 23FB. We don't spend months in it at a time (yet) so we are pretty content. We never turned on the tv for either unit. We camp. We like being outside. We like smaller isolated campsites. Exactly like what you have out there in Washington! It's just a three day drive for us to get there. Totally jealous.
