Lifelong Streamer forum Noob
This is a great site. It has been the best resource since I started the remodel. We are looking forward to making some friends and some camping memories.
I grew up in an Airstream. My dad just passed his 1952 on to my Stepson last year. He is redoing. After 4 years of trying to get me to take his 1977 Excella I said yes.
Until Dad bought a motorhome I had never camped in anything but an Airstream. Now I have the joy of redoing one. I will post pics soon. My wife has decided on a sort of Jimmy Buffet theme. It is now very bright and colorfu inside. She has not let me have a day off from remodling as she wants to take it out next month when the Grandkids are in town.

There is some yellow and Red paint to come. I used primer and paint recommendations that I found on the forum.

Hello From Metro Atlanta!
Good to hear from you Fletch88. There is a relatively active group of WBCCI and airforum Airstreamers in the N. GA area. Be sure to look for upcoming rallies and camping activities.
ALANSD is organizing a Falluminum rally in Hiawassee in October. Hope to see you there if not sooner.
Lucius

Welcome to the forums. We are just south of Atlanta in Fayetteville and our Airstream is a combination of our two favorite themes: Disney and Jimmy Buffett. Our official cocktail our our Airstream is the Watermelon Margarita and the name of our Airstream is "Changes in Latitude".
Check out the rally that Lucius noted in his post and join us for a great fall rally. There may even be an end of summer rally repeat of last year to come...I hope if someone will step up to the plate, hint, hint folks.

Thanks for the hello's and the info. We will definately try to make the rally.
I've already found some tropical vector art and have been racking my brain for a name with a Buffett reference. My wife does not want to use anything that only Buffett fans would recognize. She is leaning toward "Blew out my flip flop" I've been trying to think of something else. "Life without a brain" is just a little to close to home.

AS name: Go Forwards
Regarding a name ... I had a friend who lived on a beautiful sailboat and an was avid Buffet fan. He called his flip flops "go forwards". But I have NO idea where he got this phrase - I was thinking that maybe it's a Buffet adage???????
Love the paint - very refreshing. Cheers to you and your trip with the grandkids.

Fletch, A big welcome from a Tennessean right up the road in Chattanooga! Actually, my Tradewind lives in Ringgold when not on the road so we are practically neighbors.
I do hope you will join us for the Falluminum rally. I love what you're doing with the Excella.

Thanks funkill. Not sure about the "go forwards". Might be from one of his books. I have a few left to read.
Sugarfoot. I'm looking forward to meeting a neighbor. I have not checked out the info on the rally yet but will this week and try to make some plans. We've never been to one so anything we should know in advance or tips would be apprecieated

Looks like you are a 'Bama fan. I'm an Auburn grad, but will keep this civil. You might consider 'Bama Breeze. It is one of my favorite Buffett "new" songs; says a lot about life in those lyrics.

Thanks for keeping it civil. Year before last one of my friends took me to the Alabama-Auburn game. It was my first trip to the plains. I was one of only a few dots of Crimson in club level and I had a blast. I have to admit the Auburn fans were all very nice. I like "Bama Breeze" and Tami seems to like it. It would also make a great story that a Auburn fan actually helped to name it. We are working on the Falluminum trip but he said it is pretty full.

It would be great to meet you and your wife at the Falluminum so if there is a site available take it even if it isn't in the group area. There may be a cancellation between now and then or there may be a cancellation by someone other than our group in the A section. Even if not, you'd still be there and most of what happens, happens at the group shelter.

Another Auburn Grad with a recent buy of a 83 Sovereign 31. Married to a die hard LSU Grad, so things get interesting around kick-off season.
I think "Bama Breeze" is great .... and I am going through the name thing. Rework so far ... new frig and stove, changing over to 50 Amp service, new brakes and tires.

Welcome Orlop. Another Buffett song I like from the same CD is "Silver Wings". I always thought that was an appropriate song for a get away trailer.
Also, did you know that Jimmy Buffett attended Auburn University for a year or two? That is actually where he learned to play the guitar! There was an interview several years ago in the Atlanta Journal Constitution where he discussed it. He used to play on the steps of the Industrial Design Building across from the main admin building just down from Toomber's Corner. Then he transferred to Southern Miss. and majored in Journalism, IIRC. It's been a while since I read the article, but the journalist that interviewed him also was an Auburn grad.

Yea, I read that somewhere as well .... probably same place you did. He said that he learned three cords and the rest is history. Mary and I actually attended a Buffet Concert in Northern Virginia a few years back. It was sooo interesting, the converted school buses with fins on top and the rest.
We switched from sailing to Airstreaming a month ago and are going through the rework process. So far, not too different from the used sailboat re-engineering we did for thirty years. Planning a late August trip to Oregon, Colorado and other places West ......... so much to do.
Keep in touch and we will do the same ...... maybe we can hook up somewhere. By the way, have you researched the Airstream only parks? We actually bought ours from an aging Airstream owner in the Lake Sam Rayburn Park. We are considering buying a lot there.

We have stayed at the Top-of-Georgia Airstream Park near Helen, GA. It is nice, but very basic. Concrete patio, full hook-up, cable, WI-FI, lush mountain setting, but few amenities. It is set up for rallies, but still nice. At the base of a mountain. No cellular service or antennae reception, thus the cable service and WI-FI.
My wife and I went to a Buffett concert nearly 20 years ago. It was great. Right after we were seated, a young guy sat down next to us, very polite, said he wanted to apologize in advance if they got unruly because they had been drinking all afternoon while tailgating in the parking lot and they were already drunk. About half way into Jimmy's concert, this guy threw up on my wife's shoe. he again, politely, apologized.
You meet the nicest people at a Buffett concert!

I attended a concert when he came to Chattanooga. It had rained for days and the concert was at our historic minor league baseball field. The concert was a blast until you had to hit the porta-potty lines. Nothing like 100 degree day with 200% humidity and ankle deep mud. We had of course prepared for the concert on the deck of a local establishment and the concert was so good we didn't even notice.
Anyway it ruined the field and the City of Chattanooga sued Jimmy. Needless to say he will probably never come back. It's a shame our annual Riverbend concert on the river is the perfect setting for him to play.
