Just introducing ourselves...

Hello all...we are newly married as of this past July...in our early 30's, he has kids that stay with us in the summers. We are in the midst of a home remodel and, loving all things retro, are halfway through re-doing our kitchen 60's-diner-style, complete with boomerang Formica and glass block. We have always talked about buying/restoring a vintage Airstream trailer and were hoping to carry that theme along to her...but after many months of silver-bullet-twinkie dreams we have stumbled upon what is hopefully a diamond in the rough and may have to switch tracks decor-wise...a 26-foot 1973 Argosy trailer in all her 70's glory. She is aluminum-painted cream and beige, and from her harvest-gold appliances to her poop-brown and yellow plaid seat covers, you might speculate that if you hung a disco ball inside, you could expect John Travolta to jump out from behind the porta-potty in the back, wearing white polyester. But the price was right on her, (we got her for a steal, actually!) and we couldn't look deep into that beautiful curved bay-window and tell her no. So we are now the proud owners....

We joined this site hoping to meet people with similar goals of restoring such a specimen to her former glory, and to see photos of others who have already done likewise. We are excited to get wonderful decorating ideas and good technical advice from those who have been there, done that.

Hope to talk to many of you soon,
M&M

Welcome to the fray. Lots of good folks here, and so much information! Not much you could get into that has not be done before, so far as your trailer is concerned, any way.

Best Regards,

Welcome! Everyone's getting hooked by the Argosy bug this spring, it seems.

I dodged the "poop-brown-and-yellow plaid" bullet, I guess. My '75 Argosy has minty-fresh green print on the dinette cushions.

You certainly couldn't buy the kind of knowledge that can be gained on here just for the price of compulsively reading thread after thread of detailed, distilled Airstream experience. And even with all I learned I bought one anyway!

Ah, the "earth tones" times... Avacado green, brown, rust, gold yellow... Brings me back to my childhood--- (gagging now)-- just kidding!!! Actually I recall fondly a set of plastic Tupperware cups and bowls that I had cereal and juice from every morning!
Congratulations and good luck with Both projects! Definitely post photos... Everybody loves photos.

Michigan is a great place to find other Airstreamers. The Metro-Detroit group is a great group of folks. The Metro-Detroit forums rally will be some time in Aug. It would be a blast for you to join us all there. See the thread about the Metro-Detroit 2011. Dates still to be decided. Alot of us Ohioans come up to visit. The Ohioans have an active summer of camping and rallying as well. It is good to check on the Rally Calendar to see what is happening.
Larry and I went to work on a 1978 Argosy Minuet 6.7 m. which is a work in progress. We had the orange and "poopie" brown upholstery too. The upholstery job we tackled cuz they were just too much. The carpet is gone as well. We still have the curtains and counter tops to fix.
We look forward to meeting you down the road!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! This looks like a terrifice resource. We are definately looking forward to the project. Pictures will be forthcoming soon...

I remember those cups and bowls, etc... I think my mom still has them somewhere, maybe I'll ask her if I can have them for the camper (then again, maybe not).

Here she is!

I told my wife that I wanted to name here "Our, go see!" She thought I was being extremely dorky/corny with that, but that's why she loves me (so she says). Anyways...my dorkside aside here are a few pics (I posted several in the Argosy forum already)

We truly love this little internet family we've found thus far...there is so much information to be had and we thank you all for providing us with your experiences, triumphs...and setbacks! Thanks in advance!
