Just bought a huge project!! 1986 Argosy

Wow, I just bought a 1986 Argosy 29 that needs a complete rebuild. I am so excited! I am a boat builder with lots of experience, in boats and rvs. I am not planning to restore as original, but to customize to my needs. The exterior is beautiful, but I'm not sure about the running gear. I'll be towing it with a E-350 heavy duty Van. Any thoughts? Anyone else towing with a van?

I tow with a 2500 van…3000 lbs trailer

I did okay with a 1500 but wasn't comfortable with the braking, and I went through rotors.

An advantage of vans is that they have a long wheel base.

Even though I don't know the weight of your trailer, it's probably safe to say that a 350 will be enough. Argosys are usually lighter than Airstreams. If it's a small trailer…maybe too much, because a small trailer could get beat up by too stiff of a ride.

There is a good chance that your trailer will weigh more after the modifications.

thanks mandolindave

It's a 29 footer. I still need to pick it up. I'll look through the forums on electric brake recommendations. The van has a flat plug that will need to be changed. Thanks for the reply.
