Hey Airstreamers,

We're about to fullfill a longtime dream of fulltiming it, with a more carefree lifestyle. We'd love to hear any advice you may have. We are downsizing from a 4 bedroom house into a 28ft Airstream. We'll be unloading all our furniture in the coming weeks.

We are in the market and looking, so any tips you could offer on finding one in good repair and any tips for the downsize would be appreciated.

We are not full timers, but have spent 740 nights (over 2 years) in our 25FB in the last 4+ years.

Tell us more about yourselves and your plan. Are you experienced RVers and towers? Do you plan to stay in one spot or move around frequently? Do you have a tow vehicle yet?

Welcome to the group.

If not buying new, lots to look out for with used Airstreams. The list is long so do your research, but water leaks (from weather and plumbing) are almost universal, causing very difficult to repair damage to the plywood floor. Even in trailers only two years old.

If you could give a budget range for your Airstream, the advice would be better.

Personally, I would not call full-timing a more carefree lifestyle. That would be more likely in a house without wheels. My Airstream owners manual warns the trailer is not for full-time use, but is for recreational use.

Welcome to the Forums! You will find much useful information here. While an Airstream is not as roomy as many SOB's out there it is very do-able in an Airstream. My Parents full timed in an AS for almost 20 years before they bought a stick built home in Tuscon for the winter season while still traveling in the AS for about 6 or 7 months in the rest of the year.

We are currently full timing in our AS. We found ours on the internet. We drove from Oregon to Michigan to buy it used from a dealer. And we've been very happy with it. Hubby still finds projects to make this more our home. He's handy and has been able to fix things as needed. It does have the slide which for us makes this a more liveable situation.

This might be something along the lines of what you are looking for, if you want vintage. It looks to be in pretty good shape for its age, and very cozy. Found it by chance this morning, netting around. Also check Ebay daily, some decent deals to be had there, thats how we bought ours!

Have fun during your travels and welcome to the forums. I have found that people who full-time or just spend a lot of time on the road need to be handy. My DH and I are anything but handy so we are recreational RVrs.

Traveling in a 28-footer and buying a house somewhere like Tucson for the winters sounds like a dream-come true. I think the DH would have a cow if that was suggested to him, lol.

Whatever you do and whatever you buy, it will be a great experience, I'm sure.
