Introductions from New Mexico!!!

Hi everyone, we are Victor and Jan Jensen and have just started our very first Airstream renovation. Victor has always been supportive of my "projects", but this is a whopper!! Thankfully Victor loves anything that travels, has a motor etc. and is very good at figuring things out.
I was browsing craigslist, state by state, city by city and found one in Lubbock, Texas. A 1965 Ambassador sitting out in a field for the past 20 years. It only had 2 owners and was purchased in Lubbock so had never really moved. Valid title in hand we drove off with our beautiful Miss Molly. There is a story behind the name that I will share later, hopefully in person. She made the trip beautifully after we had new tires put on, replacing the originals.
We are very thankful for the information and videos. We both have several weeks off from work and are taking this time to start so, the entire inside is gutted. We have cleaned and are scrubbing the inside skins which are in great shape. The interior had all original parts and pieces with the exception of the fridge. I have saved everything and will be posting parts in classifieds.
I have one problem( more to come I'm sure) is the door blew off in the Lubbock field and I have it but it needs frame repair. Does anyone have ideas?
Thank you and we look forward to travelling the country and meeting new friends.

JanJ, welcome to the neighborhood. Looks like a great project. As far as the door is concerned, there are posts on the forums where those with distorted doors have straightened them with success. Up to you, but you may want to hold on to some of the interior parts and pieces until you're well into the renovation. Some of the cabinetry pieces make great templates if not reused. And some of the latches, light fixtures, etc are hard to come by. Lots of luck. Bubba

Thanks Bubba! I have labelled and tagged all hardware, light fixtures, etc. I have all the wood for templates and after using them I hope to refinish some of the good pieces and incorporating them into the end project. I like the idea of fixing the door ourselves. I will look it up and thank you!

My door

The wind tore it off while it was sitting in Lubbock. It tore it from the hinge, so we need to get the frame of it fixed.

Should be a fun (albeit a lot of work) project! Keep us posted and share pictures of the progress from time to time!

We found a door still in the crate with frame, so lucky. Now we have items for sale but I am not sure how to post in classifieds.
