Intense 'Stream Ed needed in VA

Yup, I'm one of those! Picked up a '73 Sovereign, 31', in 06/09 and then found this site! oh well...this site is a lifeline and really invaluable in tackling each project, one at a time. It's been lots of fun just having it sitting in the yard and hangin' in it when I can, and of course working on it as well. It's not road worthy yet, don't have plans to get that part done for awhile, but sure love to hear about all the great experiences of all who do. Getting it home from Lynchburg was quite an adventure and pure luck.
and put me on your list for used parts, I'm always checking for them. just made my first trip to ODMRV and got great service and some stuff to begin.
thanks to all who contribute great pics and instructions. even tho' I'm overwhelmed, I have to confess, I'm afflicted with "aluminitis"! and look forward to totally enjoying this gem and many more!
visitors and advice always welcome here at Woodstock Farm, Boones MIll,VA. thanks to all!

Welcome to the forums, Muley! That's a fine rig - and you've already proved that you'll be a valuable asset by including a pic in your first post! There's bound to be a special prize for that.

And greetings from the Eastern side of the Commonwealth.

Welcome!

Another welcome from the shore.

You should consider joining the WDCU - Washington DC unit of the WBCCI. You may hear some bad things about the club on the international level, however this local club is all about camping and fun, with a bit of education thrown in.

Also, you'll probably be delighted to know about Virginia Highland Haven, an Airstream Only park in the Blue Ridge - ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. Plenty of good fly fishing in the area, plus driving distance to at least four wineries (I think, we sampled a bit!).

Nice looking rig, however you definitely need a bigger drop for your hitch ball, so that the trailer sits more level.. you could drag tail as it's currently set up, especially since the 40 year old axles are probably in need of replacement.

Don't think you've got to have it all fixed up before you go camping, lot's of people have "an aluminum tent" for quite a while. Get the outside sealed up and start using it.

Again, welcome... HI-HO Silver, Away!

Paula

Thanks for the hello's!

All advice and encouragement is most appreciated, I sure need it. I'll sure be a regular visitor to this site.
I was so relieved to get her home, I'm afraid to move her anywhere! It was quite an adventure...but that's a campfire story...
and I've driven thru the Highland Haven a few times, it's almost in my backyard, and was streamdreamin' for awhile. And drooled and almost went off the road. some beeeeauutiful specimens for sure!
so I'll be a laptop streamdreamer for awhile...(-:<

My husband found your post the other day and sent me the link in an e-mail. He and I believe that this is actually a camper that he and I had considered buying. We found it listed on both craigslist and e-bay. We had even called the couple that owned it and had arranged to drive down to Lynchburg to look at it (my in-laws live in Nelson County). At the last minute I decided to take a look on Craigslist and found our newest family member (a '79 31 ft. land yacht). The one that you all purchased, does it have most of the original features except "new" flooring that I believe looked like parykee (sp?) and I believe I remember in the one picture it had the gentleman sitting on the couch in the front?? My husband (and a little bit of me) have spent the summer bringing back the exterior to mirror finish and now the attention has turned to the interior (started off with the idea of tweaking a few things and before you knew it everything had been ripped out). If your camper is the other one that we had considered purchasing, I'm glad to see that it went to someone that really has a love for airstreams!!! Like you, my husband has found the knowledge, help, and encouragement on these forums to be invaluable. Maybe we'll pass you on the roads of Virginia sometime in the future (our goal is to have her on the road by next summer). Happy camping....

Beth

Yeeess! the same one!

Hey Beth!
Yes, it's the same one! Did you actually ever go look at it? The floor is a linoleum tile, which I like alot as it's so easy to clean. And here on the farm, that's a help. And yes, the fellow sitting on the couch in the pic is the son of the previous owner. I took down those curtains to wash them, ha, and that was the end of those...but the blinds got cleaned and work ok. I did do major cleaning and exploring, found lots of goodies tucked away in closets etc. I don't plan on doing any major remodeling or renovation at this time. Not that I wouldn't love to!
So far, all the lights and appliances work and I'm taking it slowly. Each time I consider a project, (door latch #1), I find terrific help here and give it a try! I confess it's a bit overwhelming at times, but we all really enjoy just hanging out in the ol' girl. I don't plan on getting her on the road anytime soon. I initially just planned on using her as guest quarters. But reading about the rallies, camping stories and seeing them on the road sure gets me Dreamin' about Streamin' for sure!
Congratulations on your addition and your progress! sounds like you're well on your way to becoming road warriors! Good luck with your project and thanks for responding! I'd love to see pics!
