i'm a new member - i loves old stuff...

i just bought this 22 footer, and i would like some help in diagnosing the seriousness and depth of my discovery --- would any one care to help me determine the year & model of my first airstream??? the only vin number i see on the small tag by the door is: 22-8535... its for sale (see classifieds), but if i do not sell it by my 49th birthday in july - i will restore it with modern trimmings and pull it with my '57 cadillac coupe into the sunset, the sunrise, the sunset after that... well, you know what i'm talkin' 'bout... i'll just wander the planet and live happily ever after... me an my airstream whatever it is 22 footer... my license plate will read "slvrbbl" or "22footr" or similar... thanks for letting me join - i think (know) i'm hooked...

Newbie!!!

(HOOKED), Welcome to the forums....You may as well forget to list it for sale as you definitely has Aluminitius Terminalis. You will find if you part with it the need to get another one soon! The 22 footers are very sought after size trailers so you might just as well get busy restoring her to the magnificient beauty of the road that she is. I can help much on make or year but I'm thinking maybe it is a mid to late 50's or early 60's. check out 59toaster maybe his trailer photo will help. Ed

Judging from the cut of your wheel wells it looks like it might be a 56'....I'm sure others will chime in. Very cool!

Welcome and you might as well face it, you're hooked big time. If you're dreaming off sailing off into the sunset, sunrise and sunset again, you're got it as bad as the rest of us. Go ahead and take down your classified. No sense in getting others hopes up.

As for the serial number, according to RJ's thorough archive website, you have a '58 Flying Cloud. Photos of the interior would definately help us concur. Check out this link:

We're glad to have another afflicted one join our group. You'll fit right in.

Yep, I concur...looks like a '58 Flying Cloud to me...but names are kinda goofy in the 50's for 22-footers.

Good luck with your restoration, if you do decide to sell, this model & length is one of the more sought after from the era, you shouldn't have any trouble selling it. But...I'm SURE you will regret it later, in those sunset years ~

Maybe...Actually, the Flying Cloud, Safari & Caravanner are all very similar exterior-wise, often times the only differneces are on the interior. Interior pics would sure help...although I just noticed that "Justnicestuf" lists Caravanner in the profile, so maybe you are right. The tag number indicates it is a '58 though ~
