Hello everyone!
Well after a lot of looking and false starts I finally towed home a 31' 1976
Sovereign tonight. I think what made the deal for me was that it was only 11 miles from my home vs. the 400+ miles for the nearest alternate. Besides, I was looking for a project... and now I've got one! The exterior is in fair shape with only one basketball size shallow dent on the top rear. It has 3 awnings and an interior full of renovation work to be done. The bathroom needs to be removed and replaced along with most of the rest of the interior.
It did come with the original service manual but it is badly water damaged and of course, it is the worse in the places I need the most. Anyone know where I can find a replacement service manual?
I'm going to start this project by dealing with the main door seal and latch. It is held shut with a bungie cord so I had to stay under 35 on the way home. Whose bright idea was it to design the door so it opened into the wind? Reminds me of a 39 Chevy my first boss had... I opened the back suicide door at 40 mph and learned the hard way what suicide doors are all about! :-)
In any case, it is parked in my barn and ready for me to get to work. Too bad the barn isn't heated... I'll wish it were here in northern Idhao. But at least my Dodge
1500 with a 318 and a class IV hitch, pulled it home very easily... easier than that John Deer I hauled all the way from San Antonio to Spokane a few years ago. So wish me luck and off we go!!
