I'd pay for an Airstream mentor in Central Ark.

Hi all,
I've had the '70 airstream over a year now but have only just begun to work on reno--had it in a local shop for months redoing the copper lines with pex.

Trying to find someone locally (I'm in Conway) who might be a mentor to me as I learn because I have a billion questions about things. I'd pay for your time.

Things I'm currently wondering:

1. The airstream manual said there were originally 5 drainage valves...with my new pex, I only found 1, plus the pressure release on the hot water heater. I don't know if this is an issue?

2. Who can I call to check out my propane system? I'm terrified of blowing stuff up!

and more like this!

Basically, I don't even know what parts do what...I need a basic understanding and the manual is like looking a Russian right now.

Holler if you're local and got a couple hours to spare to walk me and my dad through the basics. Happy to pay your gas and a few dollars!

I Know what you mean about a Mentor!

My hubby and I feel your pain as we too are stumbling about trying to figure out all the in's and out's of owning a vintage airstream....a 1967 Caravel in original condition at that .... I want to post for someone in the Houston Texas area to charge us a day of their time and teach us the Airstream basics!! Any Houstonians at there up for a challenge!

Allow me to suggest you join the Arkansas Razorbacks Unit of WBCCI. I believe several of the Unit's members would be available to assist you upon request, and all for the low, low price of $65 International dues and $5 AR Unit dues, per year.

Think seriously about attending the Vintage Trailer Academy in Albuquerque in June of next year. It's a great, educational event with lots of hands-on practical experience. All classes are conducted by recognized experts in their fields.

As far as your propane system, any local propane company can check for
leaks, and give you a short course on how things work. Consider joining the owners club, as there are lots of Airstream owners with units similar to yours and who will be more than happy to share hands on knowledge. See www.wbcci.org to find great people, fun times and marvelous adventure....
