I pick up my Bambi on Friday!

Hello everyone!

I'm so happy some strategic Googling yielded me this site! Reading through some of the old posts was a huge help in picking out my Airsteam! This coming Friday I drive from my current home in Augusta, GA up to the Winston-Salem area to collect my new 2007 19' Bambi CCD, realizing a very old dream.

I'm in the military, and recently finished a fairly long stint overseas. While I was still sitting in the Persian Gulf, I was surfing the web for Airstreams. My plan is to get reacquainted with my native country, meet new people, and have some fun! The Airstream should mesh well with my largely vagrant lifestyle. In June, I'm taking it on the road for a month as I move between duty stations from Georgia up to Brunswick NAS in Maine.

So, any tips on outfitting my new darling? I'm still contemplating the purchase of a generator, but no hard decisions have been made yet. No dishes, or blankets, or anything, really.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting everyone!

Hayley

Welcome to the forums and thank you for your service to our country!
You may want to take a few practice runs to near by parks to get a feel for what you need to outfit your new trailer. Keep a list of things you need and go shopping when you return.

Congrats on your new trailer!
Lots of folks on this forum, including myself, are either military or retired military.(I'm ex-Army and currently work as a DA Civilian at Fort Jackson) MWR has really nice campgrounds on many installations, including some in places you might not expect. Any time you are planning a trip, it doesn't hurt to check the nearest military installation to see what sort of facilities are available. I saved a bundle on a trip to D.C. by staying at Ft. Meade.

Hi Hayley,

Welcome to the forum.....and a BIG welcome home from the sandbox!

I know you asked about outfitting your new Bambi........get a master catalog from Camping World and the next thing you know.....you'll be making out an allotment to them!

One piece of advice I would like to pass along is......try and stay a couple of nights in a campground near your dealer. It would be best to stay at one that has full hookups (including cable) to check out every single system in your new unit......much easier to have the repairs done immediately at the selling dealer. And, you will have some glitches.......I've been doing minor repairs/fixups for the past six months on our "new" unit. Our worst problem has been the water heater.......replaced the second circuit board yesterday.

Enjoy that new Bambi......you've earned it!

Welcome! Both to the forums, and to New England (even though you're not actually "here" yet. ). Your future station on costal Maine will put you right smack in the middle of some great scenic camping spots. Be sure to check out the NEU of the WBCCI when you get here. Welceom to the Ariforums, Hayley...you are going to lov eyour 19 footer...we do ours! It's the perfect size for our roaming...

I agree...take a couple of short jaunts just to get used to everything and to find out if anything needs to be dealt with by your dealer before you launch into the long trip...

Have a great time and see you down the road!

THANKS so much for the warm welcome everyone! Yes, it's good to be back in the US of A. Weird, but good too.

Wow! I'd love to make the rally! I can't say for sure yet if I will be able to, but I'm going to try. I'd love a chance to chat with everyone and get some wisdom. Is there room for me to drop in without making reservations, or is it pretty tightly booked?

Thanks for all the tips on cheap campgrounds and ways to learn what I need for the trailer. And thanks, Chuck, for the info on the Maine club. I'll definitely be looking you guys up when I get there!
