I guess I'll be an Argosy owner

What did I just do?

Seconds ago I clicked send on an email. I spent 3 hours this afternoon poking around a 1975 Argosy 24, filling out the excellent trailer inspection report form from these forums and checking everything I could think of.

I spent some time after that convincing myself I'm crazy, I haven't looked enough, I should do something else with the money, I don't even have a truck, etc. etc. (The "don't have truck" thing is a 2-edged sword... it's a deficiency I must correct soon, and it's also part of the rationalization that helped me convince my partner we should get the thing. "It would be nice to have a truck" was the initial response.)

The inspection report also helped me a) feel better about this being a good trailer, b) helped us come to agreement that it's a worth it.

This trailer is in my county! After the other '70s trailers I've looked at in the area and the price range, I thought I wouldn't get a TT until I was able to travel to look at far-off candidates, etc. When this one came up this week on the Craigslist app on my phone (without pictures, no less) I managed to ignore it until the evening, getting my work done and not seeming like some psycho stalker calling 15 minutes after the ad posts.

So, tomorrow I think I'll be able to change that 'Currently Looking' tag on my profile...

Oh, and just to get out ahead of the "Where are the pictures?" crowd... I've taken lots during the inspection but in deference to the seller I won't post any until money has changed hands.

Way To Go! My brother-in-law had one of that vintage and size, and LOVED it. They parked it at "the beach" and used it as the summer home. Mom, Dad, 3 boys with great camping memories these many years later. They encouraged US to get our Excella, and are looking forward to joining us in camp this summer. Welcome Aboard.

Congrats, I like the Argronskies a lot.

I live in Austin, and bought mine from a seller in Atlanta, who agreed to meet me in Mobile, AL. I'd been looking casually for over a year, and intensively for about 6 months, but once I had traded e-mails with the seller and confirmed the sale, I had the entire 11-hour drive to have second thoughts. I arrived, inspected the trailer, money changed hands, and then I had the 13-hour drive home to think to myself, "What have I done??"

But once I got it home and had it in my driveway, popped open a beer and sat in the front lounge, I thought to myself, "I can't believe I'm so lucky to have this as all mine."

You're going to feel exactly the same.

(And now, please post pictures )

Good luck!

-Marcus

I think we felt exactly like Marcus, driving from WI back home to MO with our trailer. 8 months later, "we can't believe we are so lucky...."

Some pictures

Here are a few pictures from my inspection tour. I don't mind showing them now that we have a written agreement and I've paid earnest money.

Some of the laminates are covered with a nice textured wallpaper. He's giving me an extra roll of the wallpaper, it's been up for a couple of years and looks quite good. I like the lighter effect on the interior, and there's plenty of the laminate left on the lower lockers, galley walls, etc.

I might have chosen different vinyl tiles for the floor, but it's better than worn-out carpet and should be easy to clean. I would also have chosen a different pattern for the drapes, but they're new, clean and they work.

EVERYTHING works, except that he's removed the TV antenna because was a leak. The stove is cleaner than mine in the house!

Truck-search time now!

Thanks, I thought so too!

The exterior paintjob falls under "good for 36 years old" but it'll camp. The interior is very nice overall, but the bath could use some aesthetic improvements. I guess I'd feel bad if I didn't have an projects... that was one of my rationalizations for going vintage!

Nearly all the weatherstripping is new, those pricey panos are perfect... time for a rock guard probably!

Wow, nice rig. LITTLE projects are good and fun, and you seem to have a pretty together trailer. I have to say, I have pano-envy, those corner windows must make it nice inside.

Looks great! Congratulations! The reality is that even if everything looked as if you wanted it - you'd probably change it anyways eventually. You'll enjoy making it yours. Let us know about your addition of the tow vehicle.
