Rivet How Much should I ask? Taft, CA

Hi,

I have a 1987, 29' Airstream Argosy that I would like to sell but I don't know how much to ask for it. Do you guys have an idea of how much it is worth?

Thanks,

Arthur.

Guesstimating prices sight-unseen is difficult even with lots of information and photographs. You haven't provided either one, so it's impossible to say. It could be a perfect cream-puff like new, or a rotting wreck useful only for parts, so there's no way to even speculate.

Art,

As the previous poster pointed out, condition is all-important. The best suggestion I can give you is go to Airforums classified ads

Airstream Trailer Classifieds - Airstreams Trailers For Sale

and get an idea what comparable units are selling for.

OK, I see, here is a description:

The trailer tows well and has many optional features, including:
· TV Antenna, 2 Outlets, Cable
· Power tongue lift
· Retractable Stabilizer Jacks (4)
· Bi-fold Range cover

The sub-floor was just repaired so it's in good shape.
New tile in Kitchen, carpet needs shampoo.

The A/C unit on the roof works and blows cold air.

I don't know how to get the refrigerator to work. It works on Gas and electricity but has no compressor. I think it's a heat transfer type.

That looks like a nice trailer... though I have to say I'm not feeling the pencil sharpener.

I looked through the pictures and was thinking that $7k-$8k might be a good starting point, not realizing you'd said there may be a problem with the refrigerator. I was going to look through the classifieds and see if I was in the ballpark, and I saw your ad for it for $7750.

The refrigerator you describe is quite standard for RVs. See if you can get someone who has some experience with them to see if they can get it to light and show you how it works, they're a little strange if you've never been around them.

From your description, and for what my opinion is worth, I think you're priced in the right range. The challenge that you'll face is that there's a smaller smaller group of people who are into "squarestreams" than the rounded metal trailers. Be realistic in your negotiations, and don't be discouraged if you don't have 100 offers this weekend, but from the look of it someone who's more interested in having a nice travel trailer than in "owning an icon" will see value in your Argosy.

Take some better pictures of the bedroom area. See if you can get the refrigerator working. If you can't, you can expect to give up a grand or so to buyers who realize that they cost 1200-1500 to replace. The pics look pretty good, so I suggest you put them on a sharing site like Photobucket or Picasaweb and put a link in the ad so it's easy for people to get to full-size shots.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am willing to negotiate on the price. I have found that a good pencil sharpener really makes a good point.
