Smile Hooray! Newbies w/ 2009 Classic

Wow! Wow! Wow!

In a strange twist of fate, we just purchased a 2009 30' Classic from BatesRV & we are so excited. Bates has been wonderful to deal with and customer service is their priority. They really try to do the right thing.

I would love some guidance on several things: I am unable to change my profile to reflect the 2009 as the 2008 is the most recent choice. Moderator assistance perhaps?

Also- does anyone know what/if any changes were made to the new 2009 Classic from the 2008 year?

In addition, we have the rear twin & I am having trouble determining the best way to add two bunks on this unit. (I have 4 small girls -ages 5,4,2 & 1-that I am going to try to get to all sleep in there! HA! -Can I sound-proof it too?) In the posts I have researched, I see a lot of conversions on older units. Any direction would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Helen

P.S. What a lovely resource this is!

Bunks, you don't need no stinkin' bunks!

Not yet anyway. Put the one and two year old in one bunk - heads facing the ends, they're still too short to kick each other.

You might be able to get the older ones to pull the same trick for a short while at any rate.... Or you could put the one and two year olds at the feet of the older girls.

The trick is to convince the older two that sharing a bed is a special treat they can only have when camping.

Con'grats on your new 'family' member! That's one fine AS!

Have you thought of Hammocks....kind of like bunking the crew inside of a submarine... You've got yours hands full with your young 'crew' for sure!

Have lots of fun this summer!

bunks for babes

Hello Paula & MexRay,

Yes, I do imagine that we can sneak by for a short while without bunks; I am a planner & just anticipating our next move. For now, two big girls on twins, the 2 yr old on the floor in between & the baby with us in the front. The hammock idea is intriguing & could be lots of fun as well. I think I shall research this a bit.

Thank you for your guidance. I am so excited I can't believe it!

What about slipping a sheet of plywood between the two twin beds and add a support of some type underneath. Buy a mattress sized to fit in between. During the day, slide the plywood under one twin and store the mattress on top of one of the twins. Kind of a pain but you are looking for any option.

Helen, try again. You should be able to make that change. We have to update our files for all the different models. We haven't gotten to adding the 2009 model year yet, although I have added your specific model to the selection list. Once we figure out officially what the '09 models are, we will get the balance of the units added.

Thank you, Craig. This too sounds like a viable alternative; I appreciate the idea. I am going to wait a bit to figure out what I shall do.

If your 1 yr old is less than 30 lbs and shorter than 34 inches you could try the Graco Travel Lite crib. It is 23 inches wide and fits in between our twin beds. Folds down for travel too.

Graco: Travel Lite™ Crib 9001DEN=

Congrats on your new airstream!!

Congrats!

We did this when our Son was young...a crib matress was just about perfect fit. Plywood cut big enough to fill the gap with a few inches overhang on each twin bed. This is an easy solution without making permanent mods...
