Hi from the UK

Hi I'm Maggi,
I am looking to buy an Airstream trailer and ship it back to the UK. Just working out the logistics of it all at the moment. Any advice would be appreciated. I want a traiker at least 25" and I dont really mind what the interior is like but it must be solid and towable.
look forwards to talking with you
Maggi

My Your Queen wears the most elegant hats. I'm anxious to see what she wears today at the Kentucky Derby. Have you checked with the other european members, You could search the members list for their location and then send them a private message.

Hello Maggi -- and welcome to the Forums! Casting into the Airstream pool may pull back all sorts of challenging projects. These are lovely caravans but not invulnerable to time. We'll have to trust you go into this fully aware -- you can find a lot of restoration info at the Forums to give an idea what any given period Airstream might face.

Airstreams have gotten wider over the years. For instance, after 1994 any Airstream over 22' long became 8'6" wide. That could be an issue for your licensing and roads. This issue and others are discussed if you search the forums on container shipping.

Try a Forum member MOONSTRUCK from Romney, Old Hampshire. He just posted to offer shipping help to another wishing to ship to the UK. How exciting for you. Caravaning is certainly popular there. We saw that from a visit to my cousins in Cornwall. She caravans in theits many times.

Hi,

The caravan going to Africa is using a Norwegian freightline to ship our trailers to Cape Town, Africa. I understand these are called "roll-on, roll-off" ships and usually ship cars and trucks. They charge by the outer measurements of your trailer: so from the ball of the hitch (I think you can take some of the hitch apparatus off to make it shorter?) to the back edge of the back bumper, and the top of the air conditioner to the bottom edge of the tires, and from the side aerial (sticks out about 1"-1.5"?) to door handle or whatever sticks out the farthest. The shipping company charges $75.00 per cubic meter, plus 32% extra for fuel (this is variable depending on the cost of fuel at the time of shipping). Multiply height times width times length and divide by 39 (inches in a meter). The air conditioner on the top of the trailer will run the cost way up so you might want to take it off; same for the TV antenna. Weight of the trailer and contents is NOT part of shipping cost calculation. You will need a “freight forwarder,” a company/person who sets it all up for you and charges $75-150 (?) for the service. The caravan trailers will be shipped out of Jacksonville, Florida. Hope that helps, that’s all I know…
