Hi,
The caravan going to Africa is using a Norwegian freightline to ship our trailers to Cape Town, Africa. I understand these are called "roll-on, roll-off" ships and usually ship cars and trucks. They charge by the outer measurements of your trailer: so from the ball of the hitch (I think you can take some of the hitch apparatus off to make it shorter?) to the back edge of the back bumper, and the top of the air conditioner to the bottom edge of the tires, and from the side aerial (sticks out about 1"-1.5"?) to door handle or whatever sticks out the farthest. The shipping company charges $75.00 per cubic meter, plus 32% extra for fuel (this is variable depending on the cost of fuel at the time of shipping). Multiply height times width times length and divide by 39 (inches in a meter). The air conditioner on the top of the trailer will run the cost way up so you might want to take it off; same for the TV antenna. Weight of the trailer and contents is NOT part of shipping cost calculation. You will need a “freight forwarder,” a company/person who sets it all up for you and charges $75-150 (?) for the service. The caravan trailers will be shipped out of Jacksonville, Florida. Hope that helps, that’s all I know…
