Hi from Scotland

Hi, we are in the process of looking at buying a UK spec airstream. We have towed for over 30 years and have now decided we want to get a trailer with character rather than just towing a white box. We live in NE Scotland.

Jan,

Welcome to the playground. Are you looking for a new Airstream or vintage?

Hi Jan:

I have a very good friend who I teach with from Aberdeen Scotland. My son has a friend from Edinburgh.

Are you looking for an airstream over here to buy?

Hi JanB

You can get information for buying a brand new UK spec A/S trailer from
Airstream Europe, Tebay, near Penrith, Cumbria (Home | Airstream Europe : Home page, official Airstream website, UK, Germany, Holland, Europe). We've found them grand to deal with when ordering spares for our US spec A/S.

We are full timers and love our Airstream, and can understand you being fed up with white boxes. Good luck with your search, get in touch if we can be of any help.

We are in the process of getting prices from Airstream Europe for the spec we want. They seem very helpful. A friend recently bought an International 684 twin from them and was very pleased with their service. In fact it was seeing inside his that made us decide to look to buy one. We are looking at the single axle 534.
Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Oh ---- I just LOVE Scotland. I've been saving my "canned haggis" for a special occasion. I keep missing the Burns celebration. Now I'm betting they're no longer edible. Well, maybe they're good for a few years? Can you send me some haggis? Gosh I luv the stuff. Maybe I'll get brave and open a can tonight. I know I can order fresh from a Brit shop the next town over - but I just keep forgetting.

Hey, that might be a good name for an airstream --- the silver haggis. Don't tell Ophelia Overlander --- she might get a new name!

Anyway - good luck to you. I can't imagine pulling a trailer over there - with the narrow, twisty country roads!!! Yikes.

Welcome to the forums

It's very cool that the forum is WORLD WIDE!!!
I will most likely never part with my 20' Argosy. But I tell you what.
Some of those white boxes are really nice. Open, clean, and lots of storage. I would have one. AND, some of the European trailers are dripping with character. I would have many of them. I think that they call them caravans.
So, Jan, How about a picture of your old trailer? It will be interesting
to document the before and after. Dave

Welcome

We rented a cottage in Dalwhinne some years ago, visited the distilleries and fished the lakes.

Glad to see you came around

Here in the U.S. we call the white boxes SOB's (Some Other Brands) can also be used to spell out other things, but I won't get into that. You will not be sorry you went with an Airstream, we are into the vintage units, but the new ones are beautiful. Good luck with your search and welcome to the club!

Welcome! I cycled through Banff during the summer of 1984. I stayed several days with the aunt of a friend who lived very near the beach (quayside). What great memories your appearance has brought back!

Thanks for the welcome everyone - what a friendly bunch you are. Funkill - don't think tinned haggis would go off - have you tried it as Haggis Olives, delicious with mashed tatties and neeps.

JanB,

We've been full-timing in a 684 for just over a year and love it. The guys at Tebay are brilliant.

We're thinking of (maybe) heading up to Scotland later this year. If we make it (and if I can pluck up the courage to drive a 43' long outfit around those narrow Scottish lanes) we might see you.

Good luck with the purchase!

Hi thanks for the post, a friend of ours is also full-timing in a 684 twin, he is in the French Alps for the next 3 or 4 months. Seeing inside his van made us realise how different the European versions are from US (we love US Airstreams just don't like the insides - too dark). We're hoping to sort something out at the Birmingham show.

My wife and I felt our Overlander was to dark inside when we bought it. The 1973 style has dark walls inside. When I decided to change out my old vents with new ones I purchased new vents with white covers and lights attached. I put two white vents in and one fantastic fan, which gave me great unexpected results. The light came through the white vent covers and brightended up the inside. It really makes a positive difference.
