Hi everyone. We are new owners ( finally! ) 79' Excella 31' TT
Boy, I've waited a long tome to own my own Airstream! Shes beautiful. I'll post some photos soon. Aside from the normal minor repairs etc...I have a question which maybe someone out there could help me with ...about our hitch system. According to the previous owner( the wife..her husband had passed away) she told me he had done " something " to it to make it tow better. This was supposedly done at an Airstrean dealer somewhere. This didnt tell me alot, but the " something " I assume is a type of ( weight distributing hitch/ anti-sway ) system. I dont have any experience with this. It looks to be a professional job, but there are no stickers/ stamping on it. Without a pic, Its described as two long black steel flat bars attached to the underside/ front of the trailer, extending forward to the trailers / tow vehicle hitch, where a short chain is attached to each end. I assume the chains are then secured to the tow vehicle at the hitch, where my safety chains go....?
I have tried to search today on the web for this type of " system " whatever kind it is, but w/ no luck. I have seen many similar types, but in a reverse set up, ( the long distributing bars are attached at the hitch itself, and extending back towards the trailer, where they connect the chains to a hook welded to the trailers front frame.
Does this make any sense? Any help is appreciated!
