Hello everyone!
I'm a new member here in this forum, but I have been visiting
this forum before, getting useful tips about repairs and finding parts, etc.
So now I some help. I have a 79 excella 500 that I bought from six
months ago and I have to change the whole door side skin (exterior aluminum).
The problem is I can't find the right size aluminum sheet to do this repair.
The top sheet measurement is 21ft length by 56 1/2 inches width and the bottom sheet is 21ft length by 30 inches width.
The aluminum stores that I found don't carry more than 48 inches width
and no more than 12 feet length. In based about some post from this forum
that I saw the correct material for my Airstream trailer is
2024-T3 alclad .032 . I'm in the process to removing the damaged metal and
I saw some vertical aluminum frames loose it's run along the trailer some of those are where the metal join together , weren't riveted to the main ribs. I think that's why the skin got damaged.
So my questions are : Where I can buy the aluminum sheet for a good price.? And some advices about how to do a good repair like using olympic rivets (strong enough rivet). If I use rivets to secure the vertical frame
to the main ribs is this right or not?
Anyone has been at any issue like this.
From the look of the metal damage I think it was caused by more than loose or missing rivets. Do you have a good history of the Airstream? Check it over well before your install work.
All the references above are excellent sources.
