Wink Here we go again!

Hi,
Picked up my 1989 35 ft. (all the paper work states 36 ft but whatever) Land Yacht motor home yesterday. Drove it from Vista, CA to Walnut Creek, CA.
Minor problems but nothing too dramatic, unless of course you think the engine stopping and then refusing to start in the center lane of I-5 at rush hour is too dramatic. CHIPS pushed me to the verge without drama. A little thinking and I found if I held the Auxiliary start button down, it connected the house batteries to the SLI battery I could start and run. Of course, I had to start the generator, to keep the house batteries charged and hold the spring loaded switch down all the time, until I eventually cleared LA and then stopped and jammed a thin key into the switch and made it home. Driving an old anything without tools or gadgets is devoutly to be NOT wished for! Now have to check the alternator and possible buy a new one, or maybe SLI battery is DOA.
Now to start the process of getting the coach ready for full-time living. Need to find suppliers for body bits and pieces, rear light lenses look a bit ratty, and other stuff. Then need to install all the bits and pieces I have acquired over my RV and boat history.
I have no doubt I shall be appearing in these forums in the future.

Welcome. We look forward to hearing of your progress. Pictures are always welcome.

I replaced several alternators in my 1984 310 MH before I realized that stock alternators were being burned up by the load from recharging the house batteries. I finally installed a 200 (or was it 220) amp alternator and have had no further problems.
