help, help, help. new to it all.

hello all,
i am soon to be the proud owner of 2005 28'safari and have zero knowledge of airstreams. i am a 'neat/clean' freak and want to clean, clean, clean it as soon as i get it home. now the questions : what to use to wash it ? how to get mildew etc off roof ? can i stand on the roof ? (if not how to clean roof)? what wax to use ?
i will not overstay my welcome here but another quick question.....is there supposed to be an anode rod in the water heater ?
any and all advice is highly appreciated as i am beyond a beginner to airstreams....
thanks,
ohwally.

hi oh' and welcome to the forums!

no anode rod on these newer water heaters, they are lined in such a way that it isn't needed.

and will actually void the warranty coverage on some units.

one can walk on the white top panel, but stay on the RIBS and don't eat a big meal beforehand!

there is a LARGE sub forum on cleaning, surface care, dealing with scratches, and protecting the finish with wax or sealants.

so go read that section. LOTS and LOTS of good stuff that will answer your questions...

basically treat the exterior JUST LIKE a fine automobile, since it has a clearcoat finish.

cheers

Welcome to the forums and to the fold. Airstreams don't look too dirty until they really need cleaning. Probably the ones that you see that look like they need a bath are probably either older units with a lot of surface oxidation that haven't been polished or newer units that have the more mat looking finish and just need waxing without polishing, or units that have been on the road a while.

Of course you can strip the clear coat off a new one and polish, polish, polish until you get a mirror shine, but that is not the idea with the newer units. The idea with the newer units is to have less maintenance and more camping so when you get it, wash it once, wax it once and get out and start enjoying it!
