We are the new to the forum but have been reading for over a year. It was very helpful for us in purchasing our 1989 370 motorhome in April 07. We live near Dayton, OH but purchased our girl in Nebraska. She was on Fred's and we bought her sight unseen.
We were out one day and saw a 345 for sale which really peaked our interest. Especially after we stopped to take a good look at that one which we did not buy. We began to research the Airstreams because of their unique look and charm. Our style tends to be for the older, classic and unique which kept our search in the Airstream line. When our 370 showed up on Fred's, we called the owners and talked to them several times. They didn't really want to part with her but had decided to build a house in the Black Hills of SD.
Keep in mind we have never owned, rented or used any type of RV and had only tent camped one time before flying to Nebraska to pick her up. We left Nebraska on a windy, cold day in April to bring her back home to Ohio. The winds were about 35-40 mph and the tempurature dropped to about 15 that night. We didn't know how or if the furnace worked. We slept in a rest area for about 6 hours before we were so cold we decided we had to get back on the road just to warm up. Since we flew to NB, we couldn't take alot of cold weather gear. We made it home amongst the snow flurries and haven't regretted one second of our decision.
We've used it 7-8 times this past summer/fall (local State Parks for the weekend) and can't wait for the weather to break again. Since my husband is retired, he didn't take long to figure everything out. The furnace does work and she can get quite toasty. The kids (3) and grankids (3 1/2) LOVE it.
So enough about our background. We are trying to piece together her history and determine if she has a name. Our friends in NB bought her from a guy in Orangevale, CA in 2004. He bought it from Happy Daze RV in Sacramento in 11/03. They couldn't help us with where they got it from but Carfax has a title issued in 1999 in Gridley, CA and an odometer reading report in Gridley in 1996. Airstream in Jackson Center was able to tell us she was sold from the dealership in Los Banos, CA. You can view our girl on Fred's archives under 1989. She is exhibit "G", but we believe exhibit A and G are one and the same unit. If anyone can help with ownership between 1989 and 2003, we would love to hear from you. We also need to name her. The two previous owners didn't have a name for her but we feel she needs one.
We enjoy the journal of trips other owners have taken and will add ours once we get her out on the road.
