Unhappy Help Finding battery/electrical switch Sovereign 1979

Hello All,

For some reason the site thinks I'm a first time member even though I've been a member since 2004. so it's directed me here. I have a Problem.

I am selling my 1979 Sovereign, (long sad story) and the couple selling the Airstream are not trailer people. I have a really dumb question, but I'm out of state and don't have the manual in front of me. Where is the switch to change the power from battery to electric power? They can't find it and I don't remember, as I'm sure it's not the same as on my 1966 Caravel.

Thanks!!

Margaret

My 75 has no switch. When you plug it into shore power, you are on shore power. Unplug the power and the battery takes over. BTW, your profile shows you joined the forum on 01-17-2003. It does show that this is your first post, Welcome to the forums!

Now What?

Hi,

OK, well when they plug it in it's not doing anything, what is the next step in troubleshooting?

I really need to sell this trailer today if I can.

Margaret

Ok, step by step:
1)Does the outlet from your house you are plugging in to work?
2)If yes, does the AC outlets or air conditioner work?
3)If yes, you have AC power.
4)If no, check your ciruit breakers for the AC voltage. Check your electric cord from trailer for damage. The AC part is straight forward and if the breakers are reset and the cord works, then you must have damage wires inside the camper.
5)Is your battery charged? If so, why do you think nothing happens? Do the DC lights work? Does anything work, like the water pump or the fans? Check your DC fuses. If the battery is charged but nothign works, then you have fuse or wire problems.
6)Unhook the battery, plug in the coach. Do the DC lights and the other stuff work?
7)If not, check your fuses in your Univolt. Are they bad?
8)If they are not bad, your univolt is malfunctioning. This is pretty much a nonrepairable piece and would need to be replaced. Typical cost $125-$200.

OK,

All sounds good, I'm not at site, am telling them over the phone. No battery in the trailer, where is the breaker box? In the closet? Tha'ts where the Caravel is. Where is the Univolt? Where is the fuse box?

Hi John,
Wow, thanks so much for you assistance.

Sincerely,

Margaret

Hopefully someone with that year knows, I don't. But good luck!
