Hello .:New member:. New Airstream owner

Hey everyone I just bought a 1965 24' tradewind. Their are a few problems on it like the previos owner had(a number of things done) the toilet bypassed and in its place went a porta-potty. Another problem is the door handle; it is busted on the inside and you will get shut in if you close the door and I would need a replacement(looking for one and will buy) so any tips for replacing. oh the living room is not funish but the kitchen is. All the systems work but needs new flooring and like most airstreams of this day : it needs polished. But Im not sure how to get a clear coat off It pulls great its great trailer but im not sure on the bearings on the trailer.

Im looking for tips and questions and Ill post pics later when i can

Welcome, and congrats on your new project. The search feature on these fourms will be a great help to you, with lots of info on stripping and polishing. Good luck and please post some pictures of your new acquisition!

zanad; Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase of a previously loved Airstream. Yoiu'll find a lot of information on the forum - use the search function on the left. Also a lot of expertise here from folks who have already done anything you may want to do to your trailer.
Again, welcome...and send pictures.

Congrats on the new Trade Wind! Sounds like you have a project there. I had the same issue with my '68 door handle. You can buy an aftermarket from vintage trailer supply. Be forewarned, they aint cheap. Also, you might keep an eye on used parts in the classified section, you might be able to find everything you need there if you are patient enough.Make sure and post some images of your new baby so we can all see it.

Congrats on your new toy. A ’65 TW is an excellent choice. Just one word of caution on the door handle/lock set….as Gen Disarray said, you can buy a new lock from VTS, but be sure to read the descriptions carefully. 1965 trailers used 2 slightly different locks. The main difference is that one lock has the longer extended bolt and is the more expensive lock.

yay, photos EXTERIOR only

thank you so much now here are most of the exterior photos and ill post the rest when my camera wants to work again
As you can see thier is a dent and some patchwork and the dent was apparently caused by turning too sharply because we saw a paper on the inside with tips on pulling this trailer(handwriting) and it said do not turn too sharply. there is one other larger dent but no punctures on the back, whew.
3 windows have problems with them. the one is the front doesnt open for some reason but i think some mechinesim is diconected and the other is on the side and it was replaces with pexiglass. DAng it and finally we have the back window, its been replaced and is totally immovable.AT least its not pexiglass

A hearty welcome to another vintage Tradewind owner. Exterior pics look great, and you know we're all eagerly waiting for a peek at the interior.

Lucky guess sorta. I just thought about what would be the perfect airstream "find"! Lucky you! It looks like you got a great deal. Send some interior shots so we can all be envious. Airstream envy is OK (and a good thing) on this site.
