Hello New 71 Overlander Owner

I am in the process of fixing up the old girl. I am needing new tires and just want to check and make sure I am thinking right. I should purchase ST225/75/15 load range D. Is this correct? It currently has 235/75R15 tires and the spare is a 700x15. I do not think the spare rim is any good - it is pretty rusted. I have read that 6 hole chevy truck rims will work or do I need to purchase a trailer rim from one of the Airstream aftermarket parts places? Safety is number one, so I want to do this right. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums!

While some people run LT tires, an ST tire is what is really called for for trailer service. There are several threads (use the search engine) where those who propose the use of LT (light truck) tires state their case. Some of the arguments are valid, others seem questionable.

On the rims - even though the Chevy 6 holer might fit, there are several reasons not to use them. Your trailer requires a "0" offset wheel, some of the Chevy rims have a marginally too small center hole to fit the Airstream hub, and, most importantly, the weight rating of the rim must fit the weight requirements of the trailer. Trailer requirements are generally more severe (must have a higher weight rating) than the "regular" truck rim can deliver.

Rims from just about any vendor (trailer specific internet sales houses are usually the cheapest) will work, just be careful that the size, offset, and weight ratings meet the original specs.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

There's a lot of good tire information here. Do a search, and start doing your research.
