Smile Hello from the UK.

Hi!

I'm in the UK and considering buying a 1967 Airstream Safari, which is at a local dealer. It has just been imported from the US, and has undergone a restoration, including new running gear and electrics to UK-legal spec.

Is there anyone else here from the UK?

The dealer wants GBP £15,000 for it. How much would this be worth in the US? (In very good condition).

Thanks!

Sounds a bit steep, mate, but who knows? We can't see it.

Why not post a bunch of photos, exterior and interior, so that we can give you a better opinion...?

Cheers,
Aage

Thanks for the replies.

Here are some of the exterior shots. The interior is going to be left original but is going to be retrimed.

I don't have any good interior shots.

As I'm guessing you know, the legal width of a trailer in the UK if towed by a normal car, upto and including the biggests 4x4s (SUVs) is 7' 6", this seems to put most of the larger Airstreams out of the market.

What do the number on the front mean? The numbers are missing at the moment as it is being refit, but they were 18826.

Forgot to add: it has had all new running gear, electric and gas, to UK spec.

Well, that shine on the aluminum alone could be worth GBP £ 4,000, and all new appliances (installed) over £1,500.

Add fitment (to UK specs) of that funny hitch arrangement which I imagine uses the built-in handbrake, plus shipping? I'm guessing that whoever is doing the work won't put in a shoddy interior, after the nice work that is evident in the photos.

It's starting to sound realistic. Especially if what I hear is true about how Brits have to spend Pounds like we spend dollars...

Greetings Mr. Bond.

Welcome to the forums.

Interesting propane tank covers.

The numbers most likely were from the previous owner being a member of the WBCCI.

They provide the numbers to each member and are supposed to be displayed on the front and rear of the trailer.

You should put 007 on yours.

Is the caravan already in your country? Is it still in the US?
Are the appliances going to be changed to European voltage?
If it's still here, and the appliances are going to be replaced with 120 volt stuff, you'll have to make allowances for getting them to work on the higher voltage. Your post wasn't clear if the low voltage electricals or the high voltage electricals were going to be converted. If you're not sure, ask, because there's an area for you to misunderstand what the seller is doing.

That is a very nice looking trailer! Considering the exchange rate the cost seems a little higher than it might be in the US - but maybe the markets aren't very easy to compare - UK to US.

I've been fortunate to have traveled to London for work a few times in the last couple of years - with some outings to some of the surrounding towns and cities. And it was kind of like traveling in the US - road work seemed to be going on everywhere. We wondered if the road crews were busy narrowing the streets?! Had a wonderful time there, and enjoyed getting to know the people we are working a project with.

What kind of vehicle would you be using to tow with? It didn't seem like there were many pickup trucks and the larger SUVs that are used for towing in the US.

Keep us posted on your progress - and welcome to these forums!

Any number of vehicles with a good-sized V-6 engine could tow that, couldn't they?

I mean, it's only 3,450 dry weight, 405 lbs on the hitch. No V-8 live rear axle needed there!

It is already in the UK. I believe the units inside are still US 120v but a transformer has been fitted.

How hard it is to keep that shine clean? Do any here use their Airstreams in winter, in the rain and mud?
