Hello everyone.

We are a couple newly keen on the idea of Airstsream living.
At present we are living in a 23ft motorhome (An Iveco ex-motocross truck) self converted and have been very happy living in it for the last 6 years! I know that a caravan would be so much more convenient when we travel about, we usually take the truck and one of us will drive the car and follow. This is because when you have found your site and got all set up level etc. it is such a pain to move the whole kit and kaboodle out again just explore the local village or to get groceries.Also the motorhome has to have MOT tax and a fully functioning ,none oil dripping engine. The thing is the only 'caravan (trailer) I could possibly consider would have to be something really special. And I have had a distant love affair with the Airstream since I was a kid and saw them on TV or pictures.So of course have to start somewhere on the road to owning one.
Where better than on this forum.
We are at present living in Cornwall and we run our own sign making, T-shirt Printing Company a lot of our business is done on line,.Ideallly what we would love to do is travel over to Central Portugal, buy a couple of acres of land and live in our Airstream.
Sorry I am waffling on a bit now but the ridiculous thing is we have never actually seen an Airstsream 'in the flesh' as it were! So we are hoping to hear from someone who has one we could visit to get an idea of the whole experience.
I've read loads of books on the History of these wonderful trailers.
Anyway I've gone on a bit too long now.... look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to these Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

As you are probably aware, Airstream is currently producing a Euro-model that is all set up to go across the "big lake". There are also Forums members in the UK who have brought vintage Airstreams over there.

There's a lot of good Airstream information to be found here. Good luck in your search for an Airstream.

I think the 'Euro Airtstreams' are going to be well out our price range. The Vintage trailers are the the type we have in mind.
I like the look of the flying cloud 21' or a similar sized model, to live in comfortably and tow around european roads without too much of a nightmare.
I can't wait to get in touch with any British airstream owners.
We may even be of use to someone as we design & produce vinyl graphics for vehicles, boats, banners and even caravans!

Just checked out where you are and yes! definately we'll come up and visit you. We have friends with a B & B in Hereford so could certainly pop in and see you and your airstreams from there, or find somewhere to stay thats a bit nearer (dog friendly)

Hi

I am the other half of Mackerelbus and I just thought I would drop in and say hello.

We have been to see a few Airstreams in the flesh and we have a much better idea of what we are after.

Ideally we are looking for a vintage 26' overlander double with most of the interior intact.

If it is a twin then so be it. it is well within our capabilities to convert it to a double.

We are not in a massive rush and the longer we leave it the more knowledge and money we will have but we are also eager to keep in touch with all the UK importers so we can see what's available.

In the mean time you lot will have to put up with many questions as we go through the process of finding, buying and invariably restoring a vintage Airstream

Hello again

We have finally bought our Airstream. It is a 69 Globe Trotter. It is all original and complete and needs very little doing to it apart from converting the plumbing, gas and electrical systems to work in the UK

We will ave to change the tow hitch and maybe the axel/braking system at some point but at least we don't have to build an interior or any thing

Yes it has taken that long to find one that was within our budget and didn't need too much work doing.

First there is the voltage difference to overcome

Then the gas system

Then the hitch and axle/brakes to change

Then we can start making it nice inside

busy summer coming up
