Hello from Saint Augustine, FL

Hi Y'alll !

My wife and I are commencing on a great adventure. I'm 69, she is 64. We recently upgraded our F 150 to a F 250 with a diesel and then I had a 60 gallon aux tank put in the back bed. Now we are searching for our new travel home on wheels. We have been searching travel trailers and got really interesting in the airstreams recently. Next step is visiting an AS dealer to see if we feel comfortable inside it. We're planning on visiting Sanders down in Gainesville next week. We're looking in the 29 foot area. I really like the Classic and Flying Cloud 29 and 30's. We could probably get by with a 27, but I like the extra couple of feet. I think we're going to like being inside one. I know we like the quality, looks and durability of them. Then it's off to find one and getting an acceptable price and financing on it.

We'll see. But the experience on this forum is awesome. Tremendous collection of people and experiences to (hopefully) help one not make the same mistakes that others have.

Thanks in advance
Ed ( the accordion man)

One mistake I occasionally read on this forum is that some people buy a new trailer, smaller because of price, then within a year or two trade for a larger trailer. I think I heard it call moving one size up.

I started out with 30' and went both ways ;-).

Hi Ed, congrats on your new adventure! If I may, the salt air and high humidity plays havoc with the plasticoat on an AS so I'd suggest giving it a liberal coating of wax or some other protectant twice a year. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I here on the forums will comment on what they suggest.

Wonderful idea.
While searching, look at the bedroom, can you move around enough to get up or get dressed without disturbing the other?
Also the shower, can you stand in the shower? Sometimes the wheel well intrudes on the shower.
Enjoy the search!

Don't rule out the twin bed setup. In an Airstream a rear twin is very handy. The bedroom has ample walk room and can serve as a dressing room and sitting room too. The roof lockers are also easy to access. On the various lengths, one key is to notice where the extra two feet is used. Example, between the 25, 28 and 27, the bedrooms are mostly the same in twin models but one model's length provides a foot of open space at the end of the beds. Some may like that but others may think it is a wasted foot of space. In that model, you gain a foot of space in the kitchen counter and cabinet. The bathroom is the same size. You will find more obvious differences between the 27 30 and 33. The amount of seating, the design of the lounge area. My thoughts are that the 33 is unique in having the home theater efficiency, the large bathroom and the home office.

Sanders is a good dealer. They treated us well and even allowed us to store a rig for a couple weeks. A couple of friends of ours also have been very happy with Sanders. It is a nice family owned dealer.
You will get tons of advice as to which Airstream to get.
I recommend them all. It is personal preference, the one that suits you best is the best for you.
