Hello from Ohio

Hello everyone. I just purchased my first airstream. A gutted 72 sovereign. I plan to restore and renovate it. I want the classic vintage airstream look on the outside with modern convenience on the inside. The PO already blasted, painted and reinforced the frame and replaced the floor boards. Which i think gives me a preety good head start. I am currently working on resealing and installing all the windows so i can make it weather tight.
Plan to use my 34 Chevy 1 1/2 ton as a tow vehicle.

Welcome to the forums. That combo is just plain awsome!!!!

Looks like the hard work was done for you. It will make a great trailer to travel in. I'm in Canfield Ohio. Give me a call some time. I'd love to see the progress.

Matt,

A cool project screaming for period camping gear on the outside. A restored Spartan showed up at a rally in SC and it was complete with period exterior and interior appointments. Now behind a door was modern stuff? Polite don’t ask.

Good luck with the project.

Also a Buckeye by birth.

Gary

Welcome from Colorado: You did find one of those projects where the hard work is done to the frame and subfloor. So now you have good bones to hang your new interior. You can be an interior designer. I'm not very good at it and certainly can't beat Airstream designers. They are experts at it. The factory is located in Jackson Center Ohio since the early fifties.

You can learn all about your 72 Sovereign here on these Airstream Forums. There are several very good "project threads" in the Knowledgebase category toward the bottom of the Forums page. Find Sovereign, then the year range, then "Little Girl Refurb" by Minno; link below. It is a great thread of a refurbishment of a early 70s Sovereign and will give you an idea of the work involved. Stay up all night reading it.

Welcome to the vintage Airstream hobby.

David

PS Love the old truck. Maybe you need a 72 Chevy Impala wagon with a 396 engine to tow it with. Now there is a real scary thought.
