Hello from Alaska

I’ve been snooping around the forum for quite awhile and decided it was tome to join. Sooo many answers or ideas to many of my questions. The most recent being the shower door. (Grrrr).

2012 FC 28’RB. Family of four. Big enough for our two boys to grow into - now teenagers.

Happy Fourth of July everyone.

Greetings and welcome from South Carolina.

Good place for answers, guesses and outright debate from fellow AS’ers.

Thank you.

Since you must deal with sun and heat, is your refrigerator able to keep up with the heat of the day?

We have a Dometic that is struggling mid-day. I hung a beach towel from the short awning to create shade for the compressor. Helps but still seeing temps rise from 37F up to 44F.

Thank you. I responded to Sealevel from FL that my Dometic fridge is struggling to keep up with the midday heat. What do you do in SC?

Welcome from Colorado: There are things that can be done to improve the cooling efficiency of a gas absorption fridge. Sometimes they ice up and need defrosted. Sometimes a door seal isn't keeping the cold in. Sometimes a 12v fan mounted in the rear of the fridge to help air flow over the cooling coils in back helps. Sometimes a fan inside the fridge cabinet helps. Sometimes the fridge is leaking ammonia and low on fluid thus efficiency. Sometimes the boiler flame is inadequate to heat the fluid correctly.

Other Airstreamers more experienced than me may be able to help keep the lemonade cool this hot summer.

David

It’s hot but we don’t go camping in summer. Don’t remember issues during hot spells though.

Is it on AC and not keeping up or on propane?

Might try search in appliance section for refrig cooling tips or start new thread.

Welcome fellow Alaskan! I am having similar (fridge) issues while on shore power, but it works great on LP - with some advance notice, of course. I traced everything with a multimeter and am ready to call Dometic for a replacement electric heating element. Another Alaska streamer we camped with has a second louver above the primary, and it sports a 12 volt fan. It's a 2017 FC.

We just returned from a trip from Wasilla-Eureka-Tok-Donnelly Creek-MatSu Glacier and home. Our first real shakedown cruise farther than Willow/Houston. Learned lots. This site is awesome for all the help and accumulated wisdom. Hope to see you out and about.
