Hello from Alabama

This is my first post so please have patience with me. I purchased a 1998 25'safari and have been remodeling it. I have gotten to the hot water heater and have a problem someone could possibly help me with. The hot water tank will not fill up on the cold water inlet. Only when I open the bypass will it fill up. Has anybody got any suggestions? Thanks

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

Is your water heater heating the water that is in the tank?

Brian

Yes it is heating the water that goes in. I thought that maybe there could be obstruction in the bottom of the tank.

Greetings and welcome to the Forum. from your description, is it possible that your cold water valve is stuck in the closed position? It if has somehow disconnected from the handle, you should be able to cut it out, and replace it with a "Sharkbite" type valve.

I bought my trailer from Alfa Ins company. The trailer had been stolen and recovered. The trailer was in pretty decent shape but had a lot of leak issues .i have been working on it pretty hard since about a couple of months ago.

Thanks for your help. I have already thought about the valve and had decided to cut the line going into the cold side almost at the inlet. I am very familiar with shark bites and you are right on about using them. I will try this tomorrow ang report back. Thanks again. Mike

Glad that you found one. They seem to be hard to find when you are looking for one. I seem to be finding ones that need too much work for the purchase price to warrant. My wife has no faith that I will be able to find one or can even pull it together if I do.
Trying to keep the faith

Welcome to the forum! If you can't find the answer to your question here, there must not be an answer! We are down here in LA (Mobile). Where do you plan to camp?

Don't know the first thing about plumbing or water heaters, but when you get it fixed, join us - there's lots of us around here in the southeast and a bunch of rallies coming up, between Hiawassee, Stone Mountain, Cloud Canyon and Charlotte - to name a few. Welcome!

Check out the Corps of Engineers parks. We love Prairie Creek just west of Montgomery. The park is so well maintained. Nice level sites and many of them are on the water.
