Hello All

Hi guys and girls. I am new to the forum and just wanted to say hello, and why I am here, and I guess get a little help on where to look and post some of my questions in the future.

Anyways I'm Nick. I am in planning stages of turning a 70's 27' foot airstream into a permanent residence. And I mean a complete tear out, and custom design.

I have always believed in lightweight living to a certain extent, and my last weekend up at the lake renting a cabin with the girlfriend has finally pushed me to realize that less is absolutely more. She made a comment like, “you should totally live in a trailer and be able to go whenever, wherever.”
So here I am J. I am also not one to scamp on my creature comforts though, so I am hoping the finished trailer will look something like one of the Hofmann Architecture ones.
I actually intend to work with the architecture firm in the planning stages as far as layout and design and 3d work up of the interior.
Right now I am trying to figure out if a large enough solar system (and making the home completely electric –no LP gas) is doable with the items this airstream will have. This question will be posted in the correct area I am guessing that is the Solar-Electric part of this forum? From what I have seen I could save money on the appliances going all electric – at least in the kitchen???
Anyways hello again, Thank you for all of your help in the future and I look forward to diving into this project.

Hey Nick...

Welcome to the Airforums...you'll find lots of information and knowledge here, so dig in!

Food for thought...are you planning to travel with your Airstream? Or stay put and turn it into a "park model" of sorts? I ask because you say you want to go all electric. If you intend to travel with your trailer you will undoubtedly run into situations where you do not have access to electricity to run all your appliances. Yes, you can do a lot with solar but when you get into AC, water heating, etc (big energy draw items) it may prove more efficient and to use LP. That's why they are equipped with electric and LP systems...that whole traveling thing. Just something to think about as you proceed.

Whatever you end up doing, have a blast and enjoy your journey! And keep us posted on you progress.
