Hello All

Hello all my name is Joe and I have been lurking around this sight and thought it was about time to register. I have to compliment everyone who contributes and manages this site, what a wonderful resource.

My latest project is a 1970 31' Soveriegn rear bath. The trailer came with land that I bought 3 years ago . I really wasn't to concerned about the trailer as much as I was about the land. I built a house on it and used the trailer for storage and a break shack. I have never powered it up and in talking with the nieghbors I beleive its been here for 20+ years. The PO used it for a deer hunting camp.

I plan to redo the trailer with new plumbing, electrical, tires, and interior. Hopefully the axles are still good? If not new ones.... Once all that is done I want to shine it up on the outside.

I'm so thankful I found this forum, it has answered so many questions I had and given me some really great ideas.

I will keep updating my progress,

Joe

Welcome to the forum, you didn't have to wait so long to sign up.
It looks like it's in decent shape, the shell looks great from what I can see.
You will almost certainly have to replace the axles after sitting for so long.
Good luck, great project and great trailer!
Dave

It does look surprisingly nice for a deer lease trailer. That was the former life of my 73 but that does not keep them from rolling again. Actually, depending on what is in the trailer now (weight) your axels do not look like the torsion is weak. Check out the axel post for methods to determin the life of the axels. You might coax a few more years out of those with wome TLC. Interior looks like mine. Well, actually no, you have solid door cabinets which I would much prefer.

Good thing is, at that price (free) hey you are allready ahead.

Glad you joined us.

That's a great looking trailer for a freebie on purchased land. The axels look good from what I can see. You can see a great deal of the tire. The interior looks nice too. I think you can make this Airstream go camping with a little TLC. Good for you, rescuing the grand old Sovereign.

I probably sounded negative about the axles, didn't mean to. Maybe I'm seeing something different. The shiney part is the wheel cover I think, you can see the edge of the rim just below the wheel cover. ??
At any rate, the best way to tell is to look at the angle of the swing arm.
I hope they are good.

Well Dave, you certainly have more experience that I do. I was just going by the amount of tire I could see on that side picture. Perhaps I'm just seeing that hubcap and not the actual wheel. Just wishful thinking that someone could get away without needing axels on a 70's Sovereign. Sure looks like a winner otherwise. Oh and to Airedale, we got our Sovereign in St. Joseph, MI, just last October. Now class has moved to OKLAHOMA!

Congratulations Joe!

Nice looking trailer!! The wood cabinets (no tambours) are a blessing to have in that era of trailer.

Happy Trailering!
