Happy New Airstream Owner

Hi everybody!
First of all, great to know this community exists!! I am looking forward to chatting about issues and awesome experiences.
I’ve been reading through the posts for some time and now I’ve got questions, as I’ve just purchased an airstream and am encountering all kinds of interesting things.
My “airstream” is a 1973 Argosy, 24’ travel trailer
I’ve bought it in “livable” condition but there are obviously upgrades that need to occur.

First question: should I pull out all the old cabinetry, appliances and try to sell it or just drop off at the dump? I have seen classifieds for these things but not sure it’s worth the effort to pack and ship all these odds and ends.
I want to replace most stuff because it’s so dated. Old plastic, brittle laminate, dirty tanks, non-efficient appliances, etc. everything one expects from a ‘73.

Anyhow, happy New Year to everybody!

Old cabinets

Be careful when removing all old cabinets and components. Do not get rid of anything until project is finished. You may need some of the items for patterns. I used to restore mid 1960's Ford cars. Many times I was saved by the fact that I had kept all old parts until car was completely restored and reassembled. Good luck with your project.

Thanks for your response. I will keep what might be useful, however I’m going to redesign the interior so won’t be keeping things for patterns. I’m not recreating the ‘73 design, but want to do something entirely different.

Hello from Colorado: Welcome to the vintage Airstream hobby. Renovating one of these old "land yachts" is challenging and fun. I've done extensive work on our 86 Limited 34', a 66 Trade Wind 24', and now a 75 Overlander 27'. Aluminum gets into your blood. I've met some great folks through this vintage Airstream hobby.

You can research what others have done to the early 70s Argosy trailers in the Airstream Knowledgebase, then Trailers, then Argosy and then the year range. You might enjoy some of the "project threads" found there.

Enjoy...

David

Welcome to the forum

I also had renovated my Argosy and now I am renovating my Caravanner

Airstreams are like cherries...when you have one you can't help your self to buy another

I sold some of my Argosy interior it was in good condition but I couldn't save almost nothing from my Caravanner all the interior was in a very bad shape.

This forum is a very good resource of information.

Good luck with your renovation!
