Greetings to All!

Just a brief message to hello from Australia.
I have always liked the look of the Airstream design and would like to perhaps own one one day.
I am not sure when or even how at this stage as having one imported from the US is both risky and expensive!
But for the moment Im happy to look. Possibly on the next trip State side I may even try and stay in one! hehehe
As a hobby I indulge myself in spending time building a teardrop trailer, which will be towed by my partners PT Cruiser. If she lets me!!!
I am a carpenter by trade as well as a qualified welder which helps keep the costs down.
My daytime job is teaching Construction at College.
Cheers for now,
Martin.

Just curious....

Is it to your benefit to arrange your holiday in the States if you are purchasing an Airstream trailer here?
Do you receive a discount in import/export tariffs or duties if you vacation with it for a certain minimum period of time before you return home?
Just curious....

Yeah, I remember that ad; Kinda tough to read - As I recall the words were upside down.

Just kidding, Martin. Welcome aboard!

Hi Jim,
At this stage I am unaware of any benefits re: taxes etc, other than that if it is over a certain age it may not incur very much duty at all. This still has to be looked into at this end.
I have also been told that an Airstream will not fit into a shipping container as it is too wide so it has to ride on the ships deck!mmmmmmmmmmm
Anyway that will be down the track aways.
In any case a trip overseas shouldn't need an excuse...........or should it?
hehe.
Cheers.

Forums is a gold mine of resources & information...

Hello Martin,
If you look thru the forums, there are sections dealing with transport overseas, shipping recommendations, etc...
I do not believe I would be comfortable with open deck shipping on such a long voyage either....
It does seem reasonable to split the cost of a shipping container for ocean transport if you and a friend both find small trailers, or say, a trailer & a car.
This does seem to be the single greatest resource for all aspects of Airstream interest and ownership....
Thanks for joining!

I heard that Wally once had to leave abt 30 Airstream trailers in China..
Would that help cut your shipping cost down any???
ciao
