Have enjoyed reading the forum ever since we bought our first Airstream, a Sport 22FB, a year ago. After traveling across the country last year from April to July, we decided to upgrade to an International 27FB. Looking forward to taking it to Montana in June. Any must-see recommendations there? We loved Yellowstone last summer and plan to visit Glacier this year.

Bozeman is a cool little college town, and is also home to the Museum of the Rockies (a fun museum, lots of dinosaur stuff).

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us. One of our favorite spots is the Bighorn National Forest in north central Wyoming just south of the Montana state line. We go there just about every year. It is the best Moosing in the country. It is as spectacular for scenery as Yellowstone without the crowds. There are a number of great Forest Service campgrounds in the Forest if you want to boondock. If you want a campground with hookups, there are several nice campgrounds at each end of the Forest in Buffalo and Ranchester. Sheridan is also nearby for supplies, etc. Be sure to look around Sheridan. It is one of the nicest small cities in the west.

The Billings Montana KOA is the first KOA campground. Interesting box to check off if you have any interest in KOA.

You can not go to Montana without a visit to Glacier NP. You can't tow "Going to the Sun" road, so find a nice place to stay that is close enough to drive through the park.

If you like fishing, Montana has lots of world famous trout fishing to explore. Watch "A River Runs Through It" before you go.

You may see lots of Airstreams as you travel I90. It is a route to get to and from Yellowstone. Outside Boseman there have been several AS rollovers, so watch the road and weather conditions. A wind gust might do for you and that's a bad way to end a trip.

We went to the battlefield of Custers last stand in Montana. It was quite a moving experience, along with seeing the land where and how it took place.

Hello from Colorado: I'm glad you decided to participate in these Airstream Forums and maybe share your Airstream travel adventures. Remember, it's the journey, not the destination. Moosetags is very good at this. Avoid interstate highways and take state highways across our great country. Take a chance and eat lunch in a small town cafe. The Dakotas and eastern Montana are hard traveling for me, but try to find things to see and do.

Most of all, have a great time.

OMG...yes....that was an incredible place to visit. Very beautiful and moving, indeed.

And, if you also happen to go to the Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota, you can compare the different versions of history (white man's version vs native American's version).

Welcome to the forums! I’ve been reading almost daily for years and have learned so much.
I will be following this thread as we are also headed to Glacier in late June. I got lucky and got a reservation at Many Glacier.

David, can you elaborate? If there some passes that should be avoided, I am all ears.

Hi malinois38: When I mentioned the Dakotas and eastern Montana are hard traveling for me is the fact they are like "moonscapes". Very flat, windy, and not much to look at. I have crossed the great plains many times. I sometimes think two days of great plains driving makes Glacier National Park so spectacular. Suddenly you are in the mountains. It's a little like eastern Colorado to Denver and suddenly your in the mountains.

When I drive in the mountains I like the truck routes. I figure if a semi can make it, so can I. But sometimes mountain passes feel like this to me. See photo.
